Following a theme that has developed in the comments of the Ralph Nader post, I offer up this quote describing the our country's big government:
The Federal Government is like a fruit tree that has grown wildly out of control. It was planted for a specific purpose, (to provide a particular kind of fruit in a particular season), but it has grown bigger and bigger till it crowds every other plant out of the garden, sucks up all the water, blocks all the sunlight, and has become a haven for every sort of foul beast. It has tentacles extending into virtually every realm of life and commerce - places it was never meant to be, doing things it was never meant to do.It comes from a discussion on the Boar's Head Tavern about a Christian perspective on government and the role of the government. There are some great comments discussing how failures of the church (universal) have led to the ever-expanding role of the government and how many look to the government as an idol:
...Americans of all stripes have come to believe that if a problem exists, the government should solve it.There are some big issues where this mindset comes into play and can have a major effect on politics - healthcare, the "war on drugs," public education, and many more, I'm sure. What role should the church be playing in these issues, and how could it do a better job than the government? Posted by JohnH at August 27, 2004 02:00 PM | TrackBackAnd that is wrong, wrong, wrong.
I tell you someone is framing ME because that is exactly what I would write if I was framing Margaret. Could it be Jamie Humphreys, after all he does have access to her computer, and I dont even remember Margarets email adress b/c I dont ever write her, just call. But anyways congratulations Jamie Humphreys on framing me for framing Margaret. Now who would have ever thought of that. You might just win antic of the month.
Posted by: KC at August 28, 2004 08:07 PMThere is entirely too much framing going on here...
Posted by: Margaret at August 30, 2004 11:46 AMKacey, just admit it when you've been busted!
Margaret... any thoughts on the post itself? I know you are politically minded. Come on!
Posted by: John at August 31, 2004 07:15 PMI have 2 other possible theories:
1) Margaret framed herself
2) John using his own website, framed Margaret, hence his readily made accusations, such as "Margaret framed-- *looks for Kacey*" and "Kacey, why don't you just admit when you've been busted"--John is so ready with proclaiming that I'm the One Hmmm...makes you think.
Announcement: As of now Kacey Crow is a full time Graduate Student! I will begin classes next week at none other than JSU. Maybe Dr. Margaret and I can open up a practice together and take Travisna as our client.
Posted by: KC at September 1, 2004 05:19 PMMargaret framing herself is an intriguing possibility...
As for Dr. Kacey & Dr. Margaret, if you took Travisna as a client, he'd be the only one you'd have time for. Getting inside that head?!? Scary!
Posted by: John at September 1, 2004 06:29 PMWhich comment are we debating? The Prune the Tree one? I am behind.
As for all this framing going on, it couldn't have been Jamie because it was posted on a Thursday...and also at 6 something when he would have been at work. Ha! The plot thickens.
As for Travis - Kacey, I think the topic of our first session with him should be psychoanalysis of not responding to emails.
