Seeking Song Recommendations

Calling all opinionated music fans -- I need your song recommendations! What I'm planning is a mix cd built around the song "Everybody Hurts" by R.E.M. as well as "Stuck in a Moment" by U2 and "Everything's Not Lost" by Coldplay. That should give you a sense of the musical and lyrical theme I'm going for, so please leave a comment with your picks.

I've got Elliott Smith on the brain lately for obvious reasons... Waltz #2 from his album X/O.

"All My Tears," by Emmylou Harris.
"This Protector," by the White Stripes.
"Just Like Honey," by the Jesus & Mary Chain.

I prefer Buddy and Julie Miller's version of "All my tears." They got dibs, since they wrote it after all. I recommend their "Last Song" to you as well.

First off: y'all got great taste, including me. I'mabout to represent:

1. Annabelle by Gillian Welch off Revival
2. Under Your Breath by Whiskeytown
3. Have You Forgotten by Red House Painters (here's a song to kill yourself too)
4. Needle in the Hay by Elliot Smith (see 3)
5. Resplendent by VOL (from Athens, GA btw)

"I Will Be There When You Die" by My Morning Jacket
"Devil Baby" by Mark Knopfler
"Forget About It" by Alison Krauss
"Lonesome Day" or "My City of Ruins" by Springsteen (or just about any other song off The Rising for that matter)
"Fire and Rain" by James Taylor
"Last Goodbye" by Jeff Buckley
"The Only Living Boy in NY" by Simon & Garfunkel
"Tonight" by Sixpence None the Richer
"Sometimes" by Sunny Day Real Estate
and perhaps the most perfect song I can think of given your basic three:
"How to Fight Loneliness" by Wilco

I don't think Buddy & Julie got dibs 'cause Julie is ugly, and Emmylou is not.

Or is this a matter of taste? or a referencing contest?

Thanks for the recommendations, everybody. They sound great, and I'll be hitting Kaaza, uh, I mean, iTunes, later this week...

The Cure's "Cut Here". its happy 80's groove but lyrically profound and motivating.
