Hillary Ronham Littlefield
I try to be nice. I really, really do. The man has cancer, and as someone who has seen various members of his family battle the disease, I feel for him. My prayers are with him. Seriously.
And I try to bite my tongue when I'm amongst those ready to talk smack about the next bit of dirt they've heard/seen/dug up about him. The operative word there is "try," however, as the man that is currently the mayor of Chattanooga continues to amaze in terms of sheer, unadulterated arrogance.
He ran as a nuts and bolts guy, but has tried to be a visionary while in office -- only to have many of his visionary ideas (rightfully) derided for, well, a lack of nuts and bolts.
He regularly lies to get what he wants, and does not hesitate to launch personal attacks (often via memo) against those who can beat him on points.
And now? Well, he's made an "administrative decision" (again, via memo) to ensure that a dishonest, disgraced career politician will have access to good health care coverage -- better than the health care currently possessed by many of the people who voted him into office, I'm sure -- just weeks after saying that he wanted nothing to do with the matter.
His math is off.
His ethics are off.
He must know at this point that he will not serve another term.
Somewhere during American history, being a politician went from being a noble, limited opportunity to be a public servant to a chance to have a long, glamorous, money-sucking career. This shift has tarnished our government, and, in turn, made us, the citizens, turn against each other in order to be on the "winning" side of the fight. There is no winning side, people. Whether in the race for president, or when voting to fill the increasingly diseased halls of our local government, we're all losers.
In response to Mayor Littlefield's decision to reward Marti Rutherford's corruption and abuse of taxpayers, I will be handing out cash to as many area panhandlers as I can.
Oh, and go Red Sox!!!
