From this morning's sermon on

From this morning's sermon on 1 John 1:1-2:2

What if we had nothing? What if we were stripped of our family, our friends, our job, and our home? If we just had Christ, would we be satisified?

The Collect for the First

The Collect for the First Sunday After Easter ALMIGHTY Father, who hast given thine only Son to die for our sins, and to rise again for our justification; Grant us so to put away the leaven of malice and wickedness, that we may always serve thee in pureness of living and truth; through the merits of the same thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Alleluia! Alleluia!
Hearts to heav'n and voices raise;
Sing to God a hymn of gladness,
Sing to God a hymn of praise:
He who on the cross a victim
For the world's salvation bled.
Jesus Christ, the King of Glory,
Now is risen from the dead.

Christ is risen, Christ the firstfruits
Of the holy harvest field,
Which will all its full abundance
At his second coming yield:
Then the golden ears of harvest
Will their heads before him wave,
Ripened by his glorious sunshine
From the furrows of the grave.

Alleluia! Alleluia!
Glory be to God on high;
Alleluia to the Saviour,
Who has won the victory;
Alleluia to the Spirit,
Fount of love and sanctity;
Alleluia! Alleluia!
To the Triune Majesty.

Music: “Ebenezer,” Thomas J. Williams, 1890.

Have you ever been driving

Have you ever been driving along down the road with some friends and see some other people you know? You wave and honk at them and they still look at you like, "who are these fools?" Yeah.

Various NewsCongrats to Jimmy and

Various News

  • Congrats to Jimmy and Angela Covelli (former Knox members) on the birth of their daughter, Abigail Jane. Jimmy was away overseas dropping bombs on the Iraqis and returned home just an hour before Angela went into labor. Talk about providence!
  • My friend Ashley (aka Matt's sister) had a partial hysterectomy yesterday and is home and doing well. (as I heard through the grapevine)
  • No news on the job search. Actually, I haven't been looking (even though I said I was going to). I'm begining to wonder if I should stay where I am.
  • Still thinking of getting a trailer, but not putting it in West Monroe. My cousin that lived where I was going to put it said that I'd probably have to buy a whole new sewer system because it's been sitting out there dormant for the past 12 or so years. There's a semi-new park in Ruston where I might put it.
  • Kaleb turns 1 on Sunday, and my mom will be 29 again on Monday.
  • I need to clean my apartment so bad it's not even funny.

Collect for Easter Sunday ALMIGHTY

Collect for Easter Sunday ALMIGHTY God, who through thine only-begotten Son Jesus Christ hast overcome death, and opened unto us the gate of everlasting life; We humbly beseech thee that, as by thy special grace preventing us thou dost put into our minds good desires, so by thy continual help we may bring the same to good effect; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost ever, one God, world without end. Amen.

"Christ the Lord is risen today," Alleluia!
Sons of men and angels say; Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high; Alleluia!
Sing ye heav'ns, and earth, reply: Alleluia!

Vain the stone, the watch, the seal; Alleluia!
Christ has burst the gates of hell: Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids his rise; Alleluia!
Christ hath opened Paradise. Alleluia!

Lives again our glorious King; Alleluia!
Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia!
Once he died, our souls to save; Alleluia!
Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia!

Soar we now where Christ has led, Alleluia!
Following our exalted Head; Alleluia!
Made like him, like him we rise: Alleluia!
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies. Alleluia!

Hail, the Lord of earth and heav'n! Alleluia!
Praise to thee by both be giv'n; Alleluia!
Thee we greet triumphant now; Alleluia!
Hail, the Resurrection Thou! Alleluia!
Words: Charles Wesley, 1739.

Collects for Good Friday ALMIGHTY

Collects for Good Friday
ALMIGHTY God, we beseech thee graciously to behold this thy family, for which our Lord Jesus Christ was contented to be betrayed, and given up into the hands of wicked men, and to suffer death upon the cross; who now liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost ever, one God, world without end. Amen.
ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, by whose Spirit the whole body of the Church is governed and sanctified; Receive our supplications and prayers, which we offer before thee for all estates of men in thy holy Church, that every member of the same, in his vocation and ministry, may truly and godly serve thee; through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
MERCIFUL God, who hast made all men, and hatest nothing that thou hast made, nor desirest the death of a sinner, but rather that he should be converted and live; Have mercy upon all who know thee not as thou art revealed in the Gospel of thy Son. Take from them all ignorance, hardness of heart, and contempt of thy Word; and so fetch them home, blessed Lord, to thy fold, that they may be made one flock under one shepherd, Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen.

The Sin-Bearing Messiah Isaiah 53

The Sin-Bearing Messiah
Isaiah 53

Who has believed our report?
And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?
For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant,
And as a root out of dry ground.
He has no form or comeliness;
And when we see Him,
There is no beauty that we should desire Him.
He is despised and rejected by men,
A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.
And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him;
He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.

Surely He has borne our griefs
And carried our sorrows;
Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten by God, and afflicted.
But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray;
We have turned, every one, to his own way;
And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

He was oppressed and He was afflicted,
Yet He opened not His mouth;
He was led as a lamb to the slaughter,
And as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
So He opened not His mouth.
He was taken from prison and from judgment,
And who will declare His generation?
For He was cut off from the land of the living;
For the transgressions of My people He was stricken.
And they made His grave with the wicked--
But with the rich at His death,
Because He had done no violence,
Nor was any deceit in His mouth.

Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him;
He has put Him to grief.
When You make His soul an offering for sin,
He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days,
And the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand.
He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied.
By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many,
For He shall bear their iniquities.
Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great,
And He shall divide the spoil with the strong,
Because He poured out His soul unto death,
And He was numbered with the transgressors,
And He bore the sin of many,
And made intercession for the transgressors.

The Collect for the Thursday

The Collect for the Thursday before Easter, commonly called Maundy Thursday. ALMIGHTY Father, whose dear Son, on the night before he suffered, did institute the Sacrament of his Body and Blood; Mercifully grant that we may thankfully receive the same in remembrance of him, who in these holy mysteries giveth us a pledge of life eternal; the same thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who now liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit ever, one God, world without end. Amen.

Christ, of all my hopes the ground,
Christ, the spring of all my joy,
Still in thee may I be found,
Still for thee my pow'rs employ.

Let thy love my heart inflame;
Keep thy fear before my sight;
Be thy praise my highest aim;
Be thy smile my chief delight.

Fountain of o'erflowing grace,
Freely from thy fullness give;
Till I close my earthly race,
May I prove it "Christ to live."

Firmly trusting in thy blood,
Nothing shall my heart confound;
Safely I shall pass the flood,
Safely reach Immanuel's ground.

Thus, O thus, an entrance give
To the land of cloudless sky;
Having known it "Christ to live,"
Let me know it "gain to die."

Words: Ralph Wardlaw, 1817.

The Collect for the The

The Collect for the The Sunday next before Easter, commonly called Palm Sunday ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, who, of thy tender love towards mankind, hast sent thy Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ, to take upon him our flesh, and to suffer death upon the cross, that all mankind should follow the example of his great humility; Mercifully grant, that we may both follow the example of his patience, and also be made partakers of his resurrection; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Lord is King indeed! Let peoples quail and fear!
He sits above the cherbim; Let earth be moved!
The Lord in Zion rules, And overall is high;
O Praise His great and dreadful name, The Holy One!

The power of the King Delights in equity;
In Jacob You estabilsh law And righteousness.
Exalt and celebrate the Lord, Who is our God,
And at His footsool worship Him, The Holy One!

For Moses was His priest, And Aaron, too, did serve,
And Samuel of them who called Upon His name.
The Lord received their cry; He spoke from out the cloud.
His testimonies they obeyed; They kept His laws.

O Lord our God, You heard, And answer gave to them;
You were a God that bore them up--But judged thier works!
Exalt the Lord our God! Bow to His holy hill!
Behold, He is the Holy One, The Lord our God!

Words: Psalm 99

I was watching AMTK last

I was watching AMTK last night and saw a four-year old playing "Zoot Suit Riot" on the drums, and on top of that was able to sing a few lines. It was pretty cool considering that I don't have the coordination to play a drumset now much less when I was four.

Job and Living Arrangement Plan

Job and Living Arrangement Plan It's been apparent to me within the past few months that I dislike my job. I'm kinda a people-person but not so much as a public-people-person. So I'm looking for something new. Ideally, something in my field (Computer Information Systems) or an office job (i.e., glorified secretary) If anybody in the Ruston/Monroe area knows of anything please let me know; or if you could keep your ear to the ground, I'd really appreciate it.
Also, I'm thinking about buying a trailer/mobile home within the next few months to move out to my Papaw's land in rural West Monroe, so pray that I find one in good condition and a fair price.

Collect for The Fifth Sunday

Collect for The Fifth Sunday in Lent, commonly called Passion Sunday WE beseech thee, Almighty God, mercifully to look upon thy people; that by thy great goodness they may be governed and preserved evermore, both in body and soul; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Man of Sorrows! what a name
For the Son of God, Who came
Ruined sinners to reclaim.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Bearing shame and scoffing rude,
In my place condemned He stood;
Sealed my pardon with His blood.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Guilty, vile, and helpless we;
Spotless Lamb of God was He;
“Full atonement!” can it be?
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Lifted up was He to die;
“It is finished!” was His cry;
Now in heav’n exalted high.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

When He comes, our glorious King,
All His ransomed home to bring,
Then anew His song we’ll sing:
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
