Bike Again

Ok, I'm a bike idiot. Can anyone tell me what size bike I need to get? I'm looking on ebay, and 47 inches doesn't mean anything to me.

I'm six feet tall.

What kind of bike are you looking for? I'm 6' 4" tall and ride a 62cm road bike and a 21" mountain bike. The measurements refer to the distance between the top of the seat post tube and the bottom bracket (where the cranks are attached). Basically, you're trying to make sure you have a slight bend in your knee when the pedal is at the six o'clock mark.

I am guessing that at six feet tall you'd be riding something around 59-60cm road and 19" mountain. However, it depends a lot on your inseam, too. If you're six feet and tall torsoed, then you'll be harder to fit.

Since you're trying to buy off Ebay, you might want to try to look at bikes at Suck Creek Cycles or River City Bikes. They could give you an idea of what size you want and then you could act like you're still shopping around. Of course, you might find something there that is comparable in price to Ebay. One good thing about buying from a brick and mortar place like Suck Creek, is that you get free adjustments if you buy it there (i.e., derailleur adjustments).

Whatever you do, don't buy a discount store bike. A low end bike at a real bike shop would be better than the crap they sell at Wal-Mart. Let me know if you want to talk about it more and I'll call you.

Must be those high heels you wear... =)

yes, if it's a mountain bike, you probably want 18-20". for road bike, you'll want it a little bigger and it'll be in cm, not inches, usually.

they're more like platforms, less like heels. and where is it written that tall girls can't wear tall shoes?

and why are we having this conversation on a blog entry having to do with bicycles? =)

it all has to do with height

height = power
