So we all know the Chinese place next to the old bi lo near the pizza hunt off of broad. If you know what I'm talking about you know that there usually is a cute little girl that is always there. Her parents most likely own the place and so she sort of is raised at the restaurant.
In the past it was sort of cute as she would sit and talk with us while we waited for our food. Or play a game of slap hands as we picked up our to go order. It was all sort of cute but this was quite some time ago.
Well tonight it went from cute, to creepy in two seconds flat. We went with the kids we're watching this weekend and sat the table. The two girls we're watching brought "My Little Ponies" to sort of play with at dinner. The girl at the restaurant was some what infatuated with the toys. So what a normal kid might do is ask to play with them.... she just up and took them off our table.
It was sort of weird but our kids just sort of rolled with it and didn't say anything too rude in response to the girl's rude behavior.
Now taking a toy is one thing, not a big deal, i mean she gave it back at the end of dinner.... but during the entire dinner, which we were the only people in the restaurant all night, the girl stood beside our table and watched us....
Now its hard to eat when someone's staring at you, its really hard when its someone standing next to you that you don't know.
For a good thirty minutes to eternity (that's what it felt like) we were stared at by this little girl and occasionally our girls toys were snatched off the table or out of our girl's hands. So awkward and uncomfortable.
So needless to say we won't be going back there. I mean it would be one thing if the parents tried, even tried to get the girl to leave us alone but her mom just walked by and said nothing. It was like, "yo lady your kid is creeping out the customers!"
Its really kind of sad, because most likely the girl is schooled by her parents, raised in that restaurant, and never has any interaction with people except for customers that walk in. I mean it was very obvious her social interaction was limited. I guess its another example for people to not homeschool, or at least to get them out once and a while.
So if that weren't enough the food is pretty awful too. I mean i like the lo mein but you can't screw that up. I've had a few dishes there and all have been mediocre to bad. My top three favorite chinese things are Potstickers (which are horrible there), crab rangoon (which i had tonight and were awful), and lo mein (hard to screw up).
So far the only chinese place i like in this town is the Moon at Noon, China Moon over by the new walmart. Every one else i've been too is just awful.
Well its been a long time since I blogged last. Mostly because I don't have internet anymore. We got rid of our high speed due to its cost and switched to high speed dial up. Well after tiring of the 30 minute waits for a site to pull up i felt it pointless to have internet. This being said we also incurred long distance charges because the dial up numbers they gave me were all long distance though the same area code... yeah i'm going to have to fight that one. Not sure who to yell at, phone company for charging me for numbers in my own area or netzero for giving me bogus numbers.
Life is ok. Baby stuff is crazy and wonderful. There's a certain feeling of dread as the day approaches because frankly I'm not qualified to be a father, but then again when was i ever qualified to do anything.
We're kid watching this weekend, thus the ability to post.
There's more to life than this but the computer I'm on is saturated with popups and not of the clean variety so I'm going ot have to sign off.
Well the weekend was mostly spent with football watching. I watched the Colts blow it yet again. Not sure how to react to that game. Part of me has always loved the Steelers tough working class sort of thing they got going on. Then again part of me wants the Colts to finally win the Superbowl, but I think the steelers were just the better team all around.
Da bears i was sorely disappointed in. I really hope they're not betting the farm that Rex Grossman will be a great quarterback. I mean he did ok for his 6th start in the NFL, but he really seemed to be a foolish quarterback. I'm sure a lot of his mistakes were rookie mistakes but some were just obvious bonehead throws. I don't think the Panthers are that good and I think with a more seasoned and better QB the Bears could have won hands down.
The Seahawks, that was surprisingly closer than I thought but I think even the Redskins knew that it would have to be the biggest fluke for them to win up in Seattle.
New England was a dissappointing game. I used to hate the Patriots, mostly because they beat the Rams in the superbowl, that and I hate boston, though you got to give them props for saying up yours to the city of boston by moving outside the city and calling themselves the New England Patriots, i've always liked that. But I've kind of got a soft spot for Brady just because he's so dang good most of the time. It wasn't much of a game Denver seemed to have everything under control. It should be interesting to see how Denver and the Steelers stack up, those are two pretty similar teams.
The seahawks if they show up and play halfway decent should be able to beat the panthers without much trouble. I think with colts, the bears, and the patriots you had teams who lost as a team. It wasn't necessarily anyone person's fault, it was sort of everyone played bad or not up to par. The redskins... well they didn't have a chance in my book.
Anyway, nothing really new on the home front. We're just hanging out. I'm done with travel up to the Northeast for good now so I can finally just relax and get back to a routine of sorts. I had the day off today MLK and all so i'm just taking it easy.
We have held off on doing stuff to the baby's room. We're not sure if we want carpet or wood flooring with an area rug. It will depend on what is cheaper most likely.
Well we had a happy new year and are looking forward to a wonderful 2006. I'm hoping to have a lot of changes happen this year, a baby for starters. I started the year off right by getting rid of things I don't want anymore... yep a mckays run.
I got rid of
Super Smash Brothers for the Gamecube
Metal Gear Solid for the gamecube
Street Fighter 3 for Gameboy
Tactical Command for Gameboy
A Couple of CDs including Ryan Adams 29
I got around 60 bucks for all that, a nice chunk of change and bought this:
Dirty Work the DVD..6$
The Rookie DVD 8$
Starsky and Hutch 3$... can't beat that cheap price
Matrix Revolutions for 5$
These are all dirt cheap and i figure I'd rent these anyway as I'd forgotten three of the four and one I haven't seen.
However the crown jewel of my finds was a u2 cd. Yes I have pretty much every U2 cd available in the US, however I sold War and Boy back to Mckays sometime ago as I wasn't into the whole old stuff U2. It was a little too rough for me and I could never really get into it. However after hearing some newer renditions of those songs and my tastes in music slightly changing I've gotten a taste for the old stuff and wanted to get Boy.
I found two copies both for the same price. I noticed one was a paper CD case and one was plastic... hmmm plastic would last better, but what is the difference.
I read the back of the Paper one and find it says the following
"The Compact Disc Audio System offers the best possible sound reproduction--on a small, convenient sound-carrier unit. The Compact Disc's remarkable performance is the result of unique combination of digital playback with laser optics. For the best results, you should apply the same care in storing and handling the Compact Disc as with conventional records. No further cleaning will be necessary if the Compact Disc is alway sheld by the edges and is replaced in its case directly after playing. Should the Compact Disc become soiled by fingerprints, dust or dirt, it can be wiped (always in a straight line, from center to edge) with a clean and lint-free soft, dry cloth. No solvent or abrasive cleaner should ever be used on the disc. If you follow these suggestions, the Compact Disc will provide a lifetime of pure listening enjoyment."
Now it doesn't take a genius to realize this is probably an original CD or at least a pretty old one. I haven't seen an instructional manual with a CD ever as I was just born when the came around. The CD was also created in West Germany by Polygram. I thought all this was pretty cool so I picked it up. I put it into Itunes and it shows up as a UK import. So that was a pretty cool find for a dork u2'er like myself.
