So I turned the big 24 yesterday and had a good birthday. Like I said earlier I had a great one going, video card, baseball game, and money from the parentals. But the wife came out of left field with her gifts--Larry Walker Left field.... aka its a good thing. She likes doing gifts that are things that I would like but never buy for myself. She figures I'll buy cds, dvds, and other junk myself, so she goes for the stuff that I would never think to buy for myself, which is really cool. She also likes themes, so that being said this year's theme was camping. I got a tent, lantern, bug stuff, and air matresses. Also some tennis shoes and grill stuff but that was more out of necessity and had little to do with the theme. I opened up the gear and was like, "Great! But wait, you don't camp, who am I supposed to use this with?" And the wife explained that she wants to try to get into it as she knows its something I would like to do from time to time. So we figure labor day will be our trial run and we'll go some place close by (1 hour away the max) and camp it up.
The mother in law gave me two rain coats which I sorely needed, and asked me to pick one I liked, however I didn't like either so we'll return them and I'll probably head to the REI in atlanta to get one that is a little better quality and is somewhat fashionable. Her internet was down after the move so she couldn't hit up the outdoors sites plus I'm not sure she knew what kind i was looking for. So its cool.
I got a good bit of cash and I'm not sure how to use it. I don't need a new computer after the video card. Though i would like to get a little more memory. The dream of a bike is still there but its soooo expensive that its hard to pony up that much cash. I looked online at a few and found some at REI and llbean oddly enough that were in my range of price (they were K2's and Shwins---not sure if those are any good or not). I may hit up the Rock creek cycles just to check out the retail prices there but I'm afraid i won't see what I see online. Thats the problem online shopping is great, so much cheaper yet you have no clue what the heck you're getting. And a bike, much like an armoire has to fit and look right so i may just have to wait a long time. We'll see. But what I plan on doing is taking some of the moolah and having a bit of a spending spree, a few cds or something, and taking the rest and keeping it separate from our bank account (shoe box maybe) and just saving it for A. a rainy day or B. a bike or something cool.
I thought about buying a gameboy, the new ones, but I'm angling to get crabby's when he goes to the PSP when it comes out. That or I'lll just stick with my sega nomad which takes 24 double A's and kills them after 30 minutes.
We went out to dinner at the Brick Oven aka Hixson's answer to a nice restaurant. I mean's its nice, but nothing like the really nice restaurants in town. But the food's not bad, just got to order right. We got some calamari (we have to if its on the menu its the Holton Code), salad, then bread (which was kind of gross), so we're full now, then our dinner came. Me a huge pizza that was free cause it was my birthday. Plus i knew our waiter from Cigna so he hooked us up with the drinks for free as well as a salad for me, he was awesome. Wifey got a chicken pasta dish that was really good, and I actually liked hers more and vice versa. We ate one slice each of pizza and two bites of pasta and got it to go. My buddy asked me if I wanted the free birthday dessert, I said in the tackiest way possible, "I know this is tacky but can I just get it to go." And he just laughed and hooked it up and we took the cheese cake home and it was soooooo good. Super rich. So if you're looking for a good birthday dinner for free, thats the place, but don't go by yourself and tip your waiter as if you ordered everything and were paying for everything. If you went and just got the meal for free and a soda and tipped your weak 15% for the soda only.... ooooh I'd have to show you what for.
But overall a great day, got donuts at work from Kochs which has the best donuts. So and today we might just relax and kick it, maybe check the mall out just for fun.
