So I spent most of the day wallowing my own sickness. I did make it out to Lowes and bought the necessary stuff to hook up the ice maker/water machine. I also picked up some Great stuff, its great. Talk about a marketing gimic, naming your product "Great Stuff." It says it fixs cracks, so I sprayed up my butt, but alas....
Anyway back to the point. So i get home and decide to measure the distance from the walls so i can get a good spot to run the copper tubing and all that jazz. I figure I got a good spot and decided to drill down into the basement instead of up into the kitchen (from the basement). First mistake! I drilled right into the wires that go to the stove outlet... power goes out a small fire of sorts starts down stairs (no flames just a small electrical burnage) and I'm left in the dark. I go downstairs, see what I've done and the explatives flew like a flock of seagulls. So I figure i disconnect the stove wires from the box. Then I tried flipping all the circuit breakers... nothing. So I sort of panicked, tried messing with it for a while but to no avail. I looked around in the dark for some phone numbers of friends from church, but couldn't find the church buzz book. Then decided to call my dad, after him laughing at me for a while and relaying to me the importance of not drilling into wires, he told me to call an electrictian. I called one, but they never returned my call. It was then I realized A. I couldn't afford an electrician, and B. I had to find someone who could help me. I tried the electrical guy at lowes, he had no clue about anything. So I called the father in law as a last result. Its not that the father in law doesn't know his stuff, its just that, he knows it completely. So I feel like a total shmuck calling him, but I bit the pride and he walked me through getting power back in the holton house. Basically the main breaker was tripped, even though it was still in the on possition. So I flipped that and my problems were solved, all but the stove cord drilled in two. So I flew down to lowes for the second time tonight and bought some massive large pig tail connectors. I shaved off some of the insulation and just tied them together. I think it worked but its probably not to code. But it will do for now hopefully. Then I spent the rest of the night till about mid night working on the water hook up.
I got it done with some help from Andy Montomery. It was pretty confusing, as most plumbing is, and I realized I should have just gotten the plastic water pipe instead of the copper as the copper was dang annoying to work with. But it was hooked up and Now everything seems a ok. The water tastes funny but i'm sure that will change with time.
It was seriously one of the most frusterating nights, though I did push my sentra to the limits as i left here at 9:20 to get to Lowes before ten to buy the electrical stuff. On top of my sickness which leaves me ina crappy mood. It was totally one of those moments where you try with all your will to reverse time or hit the reset button and do over what you did but no matter what you did, you're still an idiot that is lucky he had an insulated drill.
Just stop man, while you're ahead.
