Yep. It's true. David Letterman and his girlfriend are going to have a baby. It must have something to do with Dan and Chris having kids lately...
I'm a HUGE Letterman fan. I used to watch him when he first came on the air in '82, and consider Chris Elliot's Letterman appearances, and Larry Bud Melman's "Toast On A Stick" to be among the funniest things to ever grace a TV screen.
"Welcome to New York. Would you like a hot towel?"
My dream job would to be a writer for Letterman, or to produce pieces for his show like the one's featuring Biff Henderson. In my header bar, that's me (in the Yale shirt) posing with Dave's neighbor, Rupert Gee, from the Hello Deli in 1995.
I've noticed lately, though, that the writing's been sub par on the show, and I can sense a feeling of despair on Dave's part. Uninspired maybe? Going through the motions? Is he thinking of quitting? I've heard rumors.
I dunno. Having a kid at age 56 will most likely help him make up his mind.
The footage of Warren Zevon's last Late Show performance was heart-wrenching, though, and nobody in comedic TV handled 9/11 better than Dave.
Even if he doesn't slay me with humor, Dave is just someone you kinda want on in the background. He is truly unique - as is his show - and I think we're getting to see more of the personal side of the once-very-guarded performer.
We're all getting older.
And, oh yeah, Leno sucks.
Leno sucks big time. And I've liked Dave better and better since his surgery. He seems more humane.

But, what would the world be like without Letterman?

I wish he would be the Taco Bell drive-through guy again. Or have Rupert attached to an earpiece and tell him dumb stuff to do. That was funny.
Has anyone noticed that Saturday Night Live sucks now? It's really dumb. And pointless. Sketch comedy is not as funny as it used to be.

I don't actually care, but that's what Little Stewie from Family Guy said and I'll gladly take that be-boppin' baby over any grown-up comedian type.
