We're Third on the List!

This FBI study, based on 2002 crime rates, includes Monroe as the third worst small city to live in. I was honestly shocked to see the ranking. I know better than going out to the mall at night and I always lock my car and my apartment. I know there is crime here, but I didn't know just how bad it actually is - they're not exactly advertising the crime rate in The News Star. Maybe if the people of Monroe were aware of the extent of the crime, they would elect some respectable people...probably not though.

Where is Monroe County in Tennessee? Chattannoga speaks for itself but as to crime it is geographical and to certain locations and the thing of it is when a location gets crime it is that the persons that are involved are from one of the high crime areas.

Monroe is in northeast Louisiana.

I don't want to sound like a racist but...Oh wait a minute. I live in the south so I must be a racist. Did anyone else notice that all the "best" cities are in the north and all the worst cities are in the south except for one? I'll leave it to you to draw any conclusions. By the way this is my first post on a blog. No, really. I'm not kidding. I don't get out much.

I'd quit while I was ahead, Thomas. Not in our town.

You're probably related to that Steve Wilkins guy.

Wow, I'm so proud of my hometown... Memphis is number 2 on the "Worst Large Cities" list. A dubious achievement, but an achievement nonetheless... Unfortunately, Memphis will take any recognition it can get.

Matt Courtman, one of the losing mayorial candidates, said that Monroe was the fifth poorest city in the nation. I'd like to find the source for that stat.

Hi, I found your link at coffeeconversations. I live about 25 miles east of Baton Rouge. Just wanted to say hello to another Louisianian.

Jon, I saw a stat the other day (I'll have to see if I can find it again) that said the average household income for Ouachita Parish is $18,400.00. That's pretty darn poor.

They must not have polled Moscow. We have at least 9000/15000 residents reporting negative income(pell grants, etc...). And yes, I do believe they include the students in the census here. We don't really have to lock our doors here. Unless you live in a dive.
