Entry #355

Aaron's idea about the end o' the year CD got me thinking: what songs would I include on such a disc? If we're actually going to do the swap (which remains to be seen), should we include only songs that came out in 2003 or can it be any songs that we listened to a lot this year? For example, thanks to Emily, I really enjoyed Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive" this past year. I also enjoyed new music, like Ben Folds' short EP, Speed Graphic (especially "Give Judy My Notice"). Even if we're only speaking about hypothetical end of the year CD's, does anyone have songs to recommend?

Well, I can tell you that I listened to Norah Jones' album a TON this past year. Also, I got into Rockin' the Suburbs, Pearl Jam's new album, DMB live stuff, and a host of others. You want more? I've got 'em. All you have to do is ask:)

Your title is making me smile.

By the way, do you know a Christy Booth from the Natchitoches/Lafayette area? I'm probably way off geographically. (Isn't West Monroe close to that area?) I dunno, I'm just a simple Memphian. Oh well, just wondering...

This actually is Entry #355...it's not just a terribly clever title.

And no, I don't know Christy Booth from Natchitoches. That's just a weird (and slightly creepy) coincidence. West Monroe is in northeast La, Natchitoches is in northwest La, and Lafayette is in south central La. I know, we all look the same to you. ; )

My opinion of the 2003 review CD is that it shouldn't HAVE to be only songs that came out in '03. I think it should be the songs we listened to the most whether they came out this year or not. What are yours and your other reader's thoughts?

I recommend the following if you can get your hands on them:
1."Say hello to the angels" by Interpol, off of 'Turn on the Bright Lights'
2."Love Will Tear Us Apart Again" by Joy Division off of 'Substance'
3."Lust for Life" by Iggy Pop off of 'Lust for Life'
4. "The Way That He Sings" by My Morning Jacket off of 'At Dawn'
5. "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" by Neutral Milk Hotel off of 'In the Aeroplane over the Sea'
6. "Fearless" by Pink Floyd off of 'Meddle'
7. "Do you realize?" by the Flaming Lips off of "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots"

Only number 4 came out in 2003, but they are all songs (and albums) that I've listened to on repeat throughout the year and i'm in love with them all.
