Quotin'

"No tree or plant can grow in daylight alone. Given only light, a seed will not germinate, roots will not take hold. It takes a balance of sunlight and shadow. Men, too, grow their deepest roots in the darkness."

David Farland, "Lair of Bones"

That's an awesome quote, and it kinda gets at something I've struggled with for the last year. Like, I find myself more prone to connect with strugglers etc., 'cause I myself am, well, a struggler of sorts, I guess it a more explicit sin then grace & redemption story.

But onwards, as it relates to leadership positions, I find myself attracted to more "transparent" pastors/preachers, at least, ones where its obvious they're sinners, but called my God etc. etc., but where I feel like they understand me an I them. I know that's a bit selfish but...

I always figured the genius of the Christian faith was that we have a Savior who understand what its like to be a sinner and who has been tempted in all ways we have.

So my thought is that if Christ is our example, should our spiritual leaders not be, well, straight-shooting pretty seminary boys and instead, well, the Johnny Cash's of the world or something like that.

Anyways, those are my off the cuff thoughts, and, I'm aware that in some sense I'm trying to argue that pastors be a more sanctified version of myself. I realize the irony and wackiness of that...
