Although I'm fasting from politics for a bit, I'm still fascinated by these county maps. Here's one of the percentage of Orthodox vis a vis the county population:

What intrigues me is the concentration in South Alaska. Is there any ethnic or population group that causes that?

Posted by: justin at November 9, 2004 07:19 AMThe simple answer is that America bought Alaska from Russia. Russia, remember, has a strong Orthodox Tradition. Moreover, they were active in converting local tribes, who, of course, didn't leave when the Americans took over.
