Collect for the Second Sunday after Trinity

O LORD, who never failest to help and govern those whom thou dost bring up in thy stedfast fear and love; Keep us, we beseech thee, under the protection of thy good providence, and make us to have a perpetual fear and love of thy holy Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Hallelujah, praise Jehovah,
O my soul, Jehovah praise;
I will sing the glorious praises
Of my God through all my days.
Put no confidence in princes,
Nor for help on man depend;
He shall die, to dust returning,
And his purposes shall end.

Happy is the man that chooses
Israel's God to be his aid;
He is blessed whose hope of blessing
On the Lord his God is stayed.
Heaven and earth the Lord created,
Seas and all that they contain;
He delivers from oppression,
Righteousness he will maintain.

Food he daily gives the hungry,
Sets the mourning prisoner free,
Raises those bowed down with anguish,
Makes the sightless eyes to see.
Well Jehovah loves the righteous,
And the stranger he befriends,
Helps the fatherless and widow,
Judgment on the wicked sends.

Hallelujah, praise Jehovah,
O my soul, Jehovah praise;
I will sing the glorious praises
Of my God through all my days.
Over all God reigns for ever,
Through all ages he is king;
Unto him, thy God, O Zion,
Joyful hallelujahs sing.

Words: Unknown.
Music: “Ripley,” arranged from a Gregorian chant by Lowell Mason, 1839.

I promise...it was unavoidable.

I wrecked my car two days ago. As I was going home for lunch, it was raining, thus the the roads were wet. I was coming up over a hill and saw some cars stopped for the one in front to turn left. I tried to stop but ended up hydroplaning into the 4Runner in front of me. Thankfully, it was a lady that knew me and let me use her cell phone to call my mom (providentially mine had run out of power just a few minutes before) after she called the local sheriff's department. Nobody was hurt, but my poor Cassie's front end was crumpled by her trailer hitch. Back to the shop she goes. They can't start working on it until Monday the 7th and I'm assuming it'll take at least a week to fix. Thank goodness for insurance.

Speaking of insurance, when I was getting the rental, the guy that was helping me (Ryan, the manager) told me about a lady that called in to Enterprise's Shreveport office explaining her situation and trying to figure out what to do. Here's what went down. Her husband had rented a brand-new SUV or a truck (I'm not sure which) that had about 4,000 miles on it. He was south of Houston and was broadsided by a girl in an 2003 Expedition, totalling both vehicles. The wife was telling Enterprise that he was in ICU and didn't know what to do next. The girl that hit him called in to the same office to explain her situation. She had that nearly brand-new Expedition and NO insurance. She personally owes Enterprise about $21,000 for their vehicle...not to mention her truck and his medical bills. When asked why she didn't have the insurance to cover it, she said she had just lost her job, couldn't afford the premiums and cancelled the policy. If I'm driving, I make sure I have the insurance because you never know what's going to happen.

But I don't wanna!

I deleted the post that used to be here due to someone putting a ridiculous comment on it that was directed towards someone esle, and Jon isn't in town to fix it promptly. It was a funny post too.

Collect for the First Sunday After Trinity

O GOD, the strength of all those who put their trust in thee; Mercifully accept our prayers; and because, through the weakness of our mortal nature, we can do no good thing without thee, grant us the help of thy grace, that in keeping thy commandments we may please thee, both in will and deed; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Exalt the Lord, His praise proclaim;
All ye His servants, praise His Name,
Who in the Lord’s house ever stand
And humbly serve at His command.
The Lord is good, His praise proclaim;
Since it is pleasant, praise His Name;
His people for His own He takes
And His peculiar treasure makes.

I know the Lord is high in state,
Above all gods our Lord is great;
The Lord performs what He decrees,
In heaven and earth, in depths and seas.
He makes the vapors to ascend
In clouds from earth’s remotest end;
The lightnings flash at His command,
He holds the tempest in His hand.

Exalt the Lord, His praise proclaim;
All ye His servants, praise His Name,
Who in the Lord’s house ever stand
And humbly serve at His command,
Forever praise and bless His Name,
And in the church His praise proclaim;
In Zion is His dwelling place;
Praise ye the Lord, show forth His grace.

Words: The Psalter, 1912.
Music: “Creation,” Franz J. Haydn, 1798.

It's a party!

Some friends yesterday threw me a housewarming shower, and I got TONS of gifts. Now just where to put them all. I wanna say we had at least 20 ladies there and even a few extra gifts for some that weren't there. My friend Ashley stated that I got more stuff than her bridal shower that the church ladies threw for her a few years ago. I beg to differ. Also, my roomie is moving in today. Yay!

Collect for Trinity Sunday

ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, who hast given unto us thy servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity, and in the power of the Divine Majesty to worship the Unity; We beseech thee that thou wouldest keep us stedfast in this faith, and evermore defend us from all adversities, who livest and reignest, one God, world without end. Amen.

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;
Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessèd Trinity!

Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore Thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee,
Who was, and is, and evermore shall be.

Holy, holy, holy! though the darkness hide Thee,
Though the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see;
Only Thou art holy; there is none beside Thee,
Perfect in power, in love, and purity.

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
All Thy works shall praise Thy Name, in earth, and sky, and sea;
Holy, holy, holy; merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessèd Trinity!

Words: Reginald Heber, 1826. Heber, wrote this hymn for Trinity Sunday while he was Vicar of Hodnet, Shropshire, England.
Music: “Nicaea,” John B. Dykes, Hymns Ancient and Modern, 1861.

All moved in

Everything's a mess, but it's there. Leaving at the butt-crack of dawn on Tuesday to go on a "chick-trip" with some girlfriends to Gulf Shores, AL 'til Friday. See y'all when I get back.

Collect for Pentecost (or Whitsunday)

O GOD, who as at this time didst teach the hearts of thy faithful people, by sending to them the light of thy Holy Spirit; Grant us by the same Spirit to have a right judgment in all things, and evermore to rejoice in his holy comfort; through the merits of Christ Jesus our Saviour, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the same Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen.

Come, O come, thou quick'ning Spirit,
God from all eternity!
May thy power never fail us;
Dwell within us constantly.
Then shall truth and life and light
Banish all the gloom of night.

Grant our hearts in fullest measure
Wisdom, counsel, purity,
That we ever may be seeking
Only that which pleaseth thee.
Let thy knowledge spread and grow,
Working error's overthrow.

Show us, Lord, the path of blessing;
When we trespass on our way,
Cast, O Lord, our sins behind thee
And be with us day by day.
Should we stray, O Lord, recall;
Work repentance when we fall.

Holy Spirit, strong and mighty,
Thou who makest all things new,
Make thy work within us perfect
And the evil foe subdue.
Grant us weapons for the strife
And with vict'ry crown our life.

Words: Heinrich Held, in Praxis Pietatis Melica, by Johann Crüger, (Stettin: circa 1664) translated from German to English by Charles W. Schaeffer, 1866, in the Pennsylvania Lutheran Ch. Book, 1868, alt.

Well, here it is

Ten pm. I should be getting into bed but I still have to pack the rest of my house. My mom told me the other day that even though I didn't look like her I should at least have her organization skills (she was trying to motivate me to pack). I replied that I have her organization skills, but my laziness procrastination is much stronger.

Uh-oh

For some weird reason, I'm nauseous this morning. A lot of times when I don't get enough sleep (which is possible this morning) I'll feel this way. But in January, I woke up nauseous and went home sick with a fever around 2:30. This is not the week for me to get sick (because I'm moving) nor is it next week (I'm going on a girls road trip to Gulf Shores). Maybe I'm just really tired. *Yawn* Yup, let's hope that's all it is.

Collect for the Sunday After Ascension Day

O GOD, the King of glory, who hast exalted thine only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph unto thy kingdom in heaven; We beseech thee, leave us not comfortless; but send to us thine Holy Ghost to comfort us, and exalt us unto the same place whither our Saviour Christ is gone before, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the same Holy Ghost, one God, world without end. Amen.

It's good to thank the Lord, to praise Your name, Most High!
To show Your love at dawn, Your faithfulness all night!
The ten-stringed lyre with sweet-voiced lute and rippling harp Your praise inspire!

Your deeds, Lord, make me glad. I'll joy in what You've done.
How great Your doings, Lord! How deep Your thought each one!
Fools won't be shown; The stupid can't accept this truth, to him unknown!

Though sinners grow like weeds, illdoers blossom may,
They're doomed to be destroyed, You Lord exalted stay.
Lord, Your foes fall. See! How Your foes, vain evil men, are scattered all!

You've raised, like ox, my horn, poured fresh oil on my head.
You made me see the spies and hear what plotters said.
Like thriving palm the righteous grows, like cedars tall on Lebanon.

Those planted by the Lord shall in God's courts be seen;
When old they'll still bear fruit and flourish fresh and green,
And loud proclaim how upright is the Lord, my Rock; no wrong in Him!

Psalm 92
