Larry "Bud" Melman is Gone
NBC's Late Night with David Letterman -- if you never saw it -- was the crazier, more spontaneous, and, some would say, funnier precursor to the current Late Show with David Letterman on CBS. While I love both, Late Night will forever hold a special place in my heart.
One of Late Night's recurring bit players was Calvert DeForest, better known as Larry "Bud" Melman. Larry developed a cult-like following and sent viewers into hysterics each and every time he appeared on camera -- often only for a few seconds.
Calvert DeForest died Monday. He was 85.
He will be missed.
The following clip has long been a favorite of mine.
(Thanks to Alice for the heads up on Calvert's passing.)
