What I've Been Working On

My mind has been at work during this semi-absence/almost-suspension of blogological activity. Here's a peek at what's coming.

Why Orthodoxy?
A multi-part account as to why I am an Orthodox wannabe.

Free Will, Determinism and Moral Responsibility
In what way does it make sense to posit free will in an ordered universe of cause and effect? Does moral responsibility entail free will? Is free will something that must be actualized in each and every action, or is it a potentiality that is always there but need not be actualized? Does this potentiality/actuality distinction allow for robust moral responsibility?

Why Arguments from Scripture [Alone] Cannot Succeed
If there is no neutral read of Scripture, if each person will interpret Scripture so as to read it as he will, then in what sense does Scripture play a role in debate on doctrine and morality? Are arguments from Scripture essentially arguments about authority?

Stay tuned.

The question I kept hammering my poor Mennonite pastor with was: "What's our hermeneutic?????" Eventually I became Orthodox because the Orhtodox Church actually has one.

Glad to have found your blog!
