I watched my first entire serious TV-broadcasted baseball game last night. Completely voluntarily, utterly of my own accord. And it wasn't that bad, really, thanks in major part to some advice from Bethany, who watches baseball to humor her husband.
"It helps," she explained, "if you pick out one player to be your Secret Baseball Crush. Then you can just spend the game watching him."
I was unable to find a suitable crush on either the Cubs or the Marlans, due largely to the facial hair and the spitting. Which is why I've decided to root for the Yankees, as they do not participate in either of those vulgar habits.
Plus, David Deluchi is dreamy.
Posted by sopharcules at October 14, 2003 08:48 AMThough I watch baseball because I actually enjoy the sport, Bethany's idea is marvelous. Maybe that will make me enjoy the game even more.
You're right about David Delucci being dreamy, but that doesn't make it right to be a Yankees fan.

I feel so sorry for that poor fellow that caught that foul ball. The Cubs do seem to have a curse.
No, no, no. Micah, PLEASE don't root for the Yankees. ANYBODY but the Yankees (hence ABBY - my motto growing up). They make the amorality of the Braves look like holy-rolling!
If the Red Sox make it, make googly-eyes for Nomar. He's eye candy.
