Da Bomb

And I don't mean that in a good way. On Tuesday, after having our fill of pancakes, sausage and bacon, some of the congregation at John Knox were hit with some bad news. Our pastor is leaving to pursue his PhD at a university in England for three years. My reaction was normal I guess. I was visibly upset and still kinda get teary-eyed when I think about it too much. I will miss them terribly but I have faith in my congregation to choose the right man to fill some very big shoes.

I'm sorry (for the congregation)/glad (for the Steeles) to hear that.

It has totally rocked my world...Tues, after tearing up a bit when we were in Dottie's office, I was just fine, you know when we were all at my house and stuff. Wednesday I woke up and it was completely different. It felt like they were in a car crash or something, even though I knew I could talk to them. I cried all the way to work, and could hardly function once I got there. got better as the day went by, then yesterday morning was pretty grief-stricken again. When we were on our way to see the Passion, Pastor Jeff asked how I was doing and I said I didn't want to talk about it, or I might lose it again. He said he felt like he was going to his own funeral. Anyway..this'll be a big test for us, and we'll all be good support for each other.

I told him I was so thrilled for them for this opportunity, but that I was mad at him for being thrilled...we laughed. All the time we've logged around the Steel's dining room table...that's probably where we'll be in July, too {sigh...I'm such an emotional masochist!}

I went to the Ash Wednesday svc at AAPC, and Pastor Steve asked me how I was holding up...I felt my face quivering and I broke down...

Hey jessie bessie...I'm sorry to hear that but excited for the steeles! When does he leave?

Did AAPC have a real Ash Wednesday service or just a prayer meeting that happened to be on Ash Wednesday? I thought it was the latter; otherwise, I might have been there instead of down the street and around the corner at Grace Episcopal.

Like many have said, I'm sad for John Knox and happy for the Steels. I knew it was only a matter of time, but it still came as a bit of a surprise. I suppose I thought this particular "matter of time" would be later rather than sooner. But, since I'm not a John Knox parishioner (and since I'd love to do something similar someday), I'm incredibly happy for +Jeff (and I'm encouraged to see him doing it with a family).

Any idea yet if someone will fill +Jeff's position? Or, will he simply take a three-year "sabbatical" and return to Ruston after Durham?

The Steels are leaving this summer. July/August. He doesn't know yet what he's going to do after the three years are up. We were talking the other day how three years seems like a long time, but this side of three years ago makes it feel like yesterday. He has several ideas about what he wants to do after becoming a doctor.
Since the idea of Fr. Jeff leaving is so new, we haven't formed the committee yet. Some of us (including Fr. Jeff) have our ideas of who we want, but, unfortunatley for us, only God knows who that's going to be right now. All we can do is trust in Him.

**I fixed it, Jon**

Again, I'm not a Knox parishioner, but I have some idea of who I'd want, too (*clears throat to insert subliminal message* like Rich Lusk *clears throat again*). Regardless, our Lord will be with you and all involved, and I trust that somehow, in some way, this death for Knox Church will lead to a resurrection that is filled with even greater glory.

AAPC had an Ash Wednesday Service with no Ash, they still went through the penitential office, though. I enjoyed it, and needed it badly that day.

Thanks for all the encouraging words, Jon. We'll really need our brothers and sisters at Auburn Ave. to pray and support us.

I'm writing like this is my blog. Sorry Jess..I can hear you saying "When is Bradley Scott gonna get his OWN blog??" To that, I can only reply, why don'tcha come to our house this evening and help me SET ONE UP!?!? Hee hee
