A Rank of California Law Schools
Some of you know that I'm beginning law training at Chapman university in about two weeks. Since the law school was not fully accredited until about three or four years ago, the "status" of the school is hard to determine. Overall, the school is building upon a good reputation that precedes the law school, especially here in California.
The following statistic was released a few days ago.
The statistic reflects first time BAR passage percentages by school. This statistic is one of the most crucial elements when it comes to assessing the quality of a law school. In fact, some would say it's the most important criteria: being trained to pass the bar (because if you don’t pass the BAR, then you will not be allowed to practice law as an attorney. With this in mind you will understand how I was only a little less than thrilled at the following statistic.
Percentage of students who passed the BAR on their first attempt broke down by school:Out of the nineteen law schools in California, the average percentage of those who passed on the first time is 57%. That puts Chapman not only in the top five law schools of California, but it also puts them nearly two standard deviations above the average.1. Stanford: with 100%
2. UCLA and Berkeley with 86%
3. USC with 78%
4. Chapman with 73%
5. Falling just behind Chapman is the University of San Diego with 69%.
Falling just about smack-dab in the middle of the ranking is one of my alma matters: Loyola Marymount with 56%

My prayer is that I'll be among those graduates who will continue to improve such statistics.
Needless to say, as my law training draws ever nearer I am becoming more and more excited--these types of numbers are a welcomed encouragement. On a final, less important note, I found it interesting that this year U.S. News and World Report noted Chapman’s law library as #4 in the nation, falling just one slot behind Yale’s library!
God is so merciful, and I am so unworthy. May I always remember to give Him all the honor.

Some Stuff Here Is
1st off, for those of you who have the new Radiohead album "Hail to the Thief" and are finding yourselves dissatisfied, I have a listening guide that will guarantee your listening enjoyment. Well, it will at least give you a different impression of the album, I hope. Here it is:
For the first nine tracks of the album listen only to the odd tracks (track: 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9). From nine on you may let it play through.With this listening scheme the listener avoids what might well be considered the "artsy" stuff, while enjoying the jewels of the album-- one may also notice the definite continuity between the songs and their strength. With this scheme employed I have found Hail to the Thief to be one of my favorite Radiohead discs.
Pirates of the Caribbean sucks. I'm sorry. If not for the interesting performance of Johnny Depp, and the good looks of Orlando Bloom (liked him much better as Legolas) the plot would have sunk into the darkest abyss of contrivance and cliché. Is this what Hollywood considers to be a "blockbuster"? Godspeed the release of Return of the King and The Matrix III.

On Saturday July 12th, at approximately 9:30pm, Life After Darla (remember us?) are taking the stage once again! It's been well over two years since the boys and I have performed live, and we are looking forward to it with great anticipation. Venue: Hogue Barmichael's (a hop and a skip from UCI)
For the past several months we've been tirelessly rehearsing what could only be one of the strongest sets we have ever compiled. Drawing from our nearly 12 year recording history we have compiled a set-list that touches on past favorites, emphasizes current favorites, and foretells where the band is headed musically. With age has come maturity and precision-- you will not want to miss what ought to prove to be one of the most energetic and anticipated shows of Hogue Barmichael's somewhat pathetic history.
Some of you may know that Hogue's has remodeled and updated their stage and sound-system, so we're hoping for a fair representation of our sound. Say a prayer, please.
So please, if you're interested and able to come to the show we'd love to have your support. Tickets at the door are $8. BUT don't pay that much!, contact me and I can get you a ticket for only $6, if you buy ahead of time! (use the two dollar savings to buy ear plugs).
