When Ray Charles died last month, I was saddened and thought of all his hits that played on the radio (and on my older brother's albums) as a kid and teenager. Inspired, I pulled out my LP of "Ray Charles at Newport," recorded live at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1958. Oh man, "The Night Time is the Right Time," "Talkin' Bout You," "I Got A Woman." A person would have to be paralyzed to keep his body still when those are playing! He was truly a "national treasure." I remember as a kid singing "What'd I Say?," especially the call-and-response "UHHH - uhhh, OOHH - oohh, Uh - uh, Oh - oh.......WOWWWWWW tell me what'd I say...."

Have you gone on your hiking trip this summer yet? Jeremy is going to hike Mt. Whitney w/ some of his friends in August, which made me think of your annual trips.
Also- do you have any photographs of me, Whitney and Michael that you know that my parents would not have? I seem to remember you having a box of a few the last time we visited (a century ago). Do you still have them? Maybe you could scan them and e-mail them to me if you still have them.
I'll be leaving for the Sierras in just over a week. Good luck to Jeremy -- I hear it's one tough climb to the top of Mt Whitney (no resemblance to sis) and back. But of course the views must be superb from such a height. I've never climbed it. I prefer to concentrate on my photos these days up there, choosing a base-camp for it's proximity to potentially beautiful areas and doing dayhikes to them with my camera and tripod with high hopes.
I probably have a lot of old pictures of you and the others in that old desk in my bedroom. The problem is, either my scanner, or the cable, or the connection to my computer doesn't work right now. As soon as I rectify whatever is the problem, I can scan and send some to you.
