Insidious Policies

The other day I was on the phone with my insurance broker (Auto Insurance Specialists) trying to add my fiance to my policy.

Broker: So you want to add your fiance to your policy?
Me: Yes, please.
Broker: That won't be a problem; you live with your fiance, correct?
Me: No, we don't live together.
Broker: I'm sorry then; we cannot add her to your policy-- unless she is living in the same household we cannot add her to your policy.
Me: Hm.
Moral: if you are shacking-up with your live-in honey you can be on each other's auto insurance policy. If you're doing things the "old fashioned way," you're up a creek. What values does our society promote?

That is funny.

Related in an offbeat way:
The other day at work a man called in about something, requesting a call back at a later time. Of course, I obliged. He then said, "You can also speak to my girlfriend about this when you call back." I said, "Great." I think in an effort to legitimize my speaking with his girlfriend (as opposed to saying, "you can speak to my wife") after a slight pause he added, "we've been dating for eight years and living together for five." And what???

The law is written on our hearts...and we know when we transgress. Usually.

Hi Jeremy, this is really very sad.

My company is SO politically correct it is almost sickening. I am waiting for them to start offering some sort of insurance benefits to emplyees "live in" sex dolls or other apparatus.

I honor you and your fiance for living apart...what a rare gem in our culture today. By the way, when is the wedding?

I'll be in So Cal in June for Chance's wedding in Costa Mesa. We should try and hook up.

James,
Next month Jeremy and I will not only be chrismated into the Orthodox Church... We will also give up saying goodnight to each other at the doorstep.
We will be wed on the 28th of December.
Katherine.

PS. For the sake of the bride and her mother, I hope you sent in your reponse card quickly! :)

Hi Katherine!

Ya know...I don't think I ever recieved a response card to begin with! :)

Anyway, what an exciting time for you both and I look forward to rejoicing with you even though I will be quite a few longitudinal degrees north of you at the time.

....make great use of the Nativity Fast cuz the FEAST that's coming will be wonderful!
