Plenty to offer
Interested in Biblical enrichment? St. Paul's Orthodox Church has much to offer:
Sunday morning 8:45am: Orthos (prayer service); a great time to prepare for liturgy, repenting of sins, reflecting on God's grace, etc.
10am Divine Liturgy. Like nothing else on Earth.
Monday 7-7:30pm Small Compline (prayer service).
7:30pm Monday night Bible study (currently studying Hebrews). Lead by Fr. Timothy, will certainly be a valuable exercise.
Tuesday Nov 5th (first Tuesday of each month) St. Paul's and St. John Neuman's (Romanist) book club. (We're currently reading Augustine's Confessions.) This may be the only club of its kind (at least in Cali). Catholics and Orthodox come together to discuss great books of Christianity.
Wednesday 7pm Orthodoxy 101. A study of Orthodoxy. Great stuff, lead by Fr. Steve.
Thursday 7:30pm Orthodox Christian Fellowship; Bible study for those between the ages of 25-35 (but really all are welcomed.) Dean Langis, who leads the group, provides great insight and demonstrates a vast knowledge of the Church Fathers.
I invite any and all who would like to attend (even just once). Drop me a line, or just show up, everyone there will be happy to have you. Check out their website: I listed but a few of the great programs offered by the church.
Posted by jeremy stock at October 7, 2002 09:56 PMJer, did Fr. Steve give you money to do this? :-)
Posted by: Toshikazu at October 8, 2002 11:01 AMlol, No. But I think I'll ask him now that you mention it. :-)

Capella Romana
Posted by: jeremy at October 8, 2002 10:34 PMCatholics and Orthodox come together to discuss great books of Christianity. And grouse about Protestants too I'll wager! :) That and the Virgin Mary are the biggest things you two have in common! :)
Really, I would love to be able to read Confessions. I think we all (RC, EO, Prot) would be better off if we read more of Augustine, I know I haven't read nearly enough. Enjoy it bro!
Posted by: Tim at October 10, 2002 09:32 AMit was good to hear from you again Tim! Hope things are well with you.
Actually, the Orhtodox think the Roman Catholic view of Mary is beyond what it ought to be. If anything it's a point of contention...of course Orthodox think Protestants don't go far enough, but that is another story. :-)
I think we need to be reading not only more Augustine, but more of the Church Fathers in general.
Thanks for writing.
Posted by: jeremy at October 10, 2002 04:26 PMGood to see you posting again. Didn't you take a little break there? Or was that just me not looking for a while? :)
What I was referring to re Mary was her perpetual virginity, not some of the stuff the Romanists believe. You guys share that view don't you?
Interesting aside, it is said that about the only thing Calvin and Luther agreed on was Mary's perpetual virginity!
Posted by: Tim at October 12, 2002 08:36 AMOrthodox do believe in Mary's life-long virginity. Concerning Calvin and Luther: I think I do remember hearing something like that. Very interesting indeed!
I did take a "break" from blogging if you will... but I'm glad to be back. Although my current schedule doesn't seem to allow for regular blogging.
but it was good to hear from you again; I hope all is well.
