Questions to ask

?'s that Need answers

I will posit two things as incontrovertable fact.

1. The Lord's Supper (Holy Communion/Eucharist) was administered each and every Lord's Day (on Sunday) since the Apostolic era.

2. Liturgical worship (including written prayers, and episcopal sermons) was established as the common practice of the church as early as 100-120 A.D. if not earlier.

It seems to me that if you currently find yourself at a church that either (a) administers the Lord's Supper less than every week, or (b) is a non-liturgical church (in the strict sense), then you need to be asking yourself why.

Ask yourself; Why has my church chosen a new paradigm? Was the practice of the early church as established by the Apostles themselves, or in the case of the liturgies, established by those men who personally knew the Apostles, simply unimportant? Or worse, was the early church's practice wrong? If it was not wrong, nor unimportant, why does your church practice differently?

Do you feel comfortable in a church whose practice in such a seemingly vital area (the sacraments) is at variance with the Apostolic era? If you do feel comfortable, what is the justification for such a difference in practice?

To my mind the answers to these questions ought to incite action.
