How is that a person can reject friendship? I stand here and I say, I want to be your friend, I will walk with you through life, I will be here and there when you're in the worst of times, I want to celebrate your joy with you. Will you let me love you? Will you serve God with me? Will you call me on my crap? Will you let me push you toward God?
How do you say no? I just don't get it. This is a gift, something I wasn't looking for and maybe it is something I didn't know I was capable of giving. If you take this gift and gently lay it by the side of the road and drive off, I may just pick it up and bring it to you again. "Here, you forgot something." Now ain't that some sort of love?

Well, what if someone hates their own self?
then loving their neighbor is actually hating their neighbor.
The foundation is in self-love, like one's ownself. when you take your eyes off you and put it on the person in question, you will most likely see that they cannot accept your love.
they reject that love, because they refuse/reject any love, because they choose not to like/love their own self.
now. why do people choose to hate themself?
i mean, you speak of your love as a gift.
their life is a gift from God. they reflect God's image. hating them is like/is also hating who God is.
Perhaps your freind is thinking, why are you pushing me somewhere that I am running away from? stop that, that hurts me more.
please keep loving this person no matter how much they may reject you, he/she is not really rejecting you, but rejecting self-love, if you can continue to show that person that he/she is lovable, the walls will break down, and eventually perhaps they will realize they are lovable, and that they are valuable. that God made them and loves them too, and that the Gospel is really true.
