list/ing

2003 brought these treats my way, and i am happy. In as close to an order of "bestness" as i could bring myself to put them...

'03 MUSIC:

[NUMBER ONE]
"6" by Supersilent
This is some of the most jaw-dropping, hefty, affecting, modern sound i've ever heard. It feels like Miles Davis backwards. No pre-studio composing, no overdubs, no warnings, No-rway, no thing like it, no kidding.

2. "Hail to the Thief" by Radiohead
trenches, trenches, payin attention, payin attention, raindrops, raindrops, don't you dare, don't you dare, green, lonely, green, lonely, scatterbrain, scatterbrain.

3. "You Forgot it in People" by Broken Social Scene
Pop-perfect Canadian grabbag o' good. Not to mention blood from Do Make Say Think.

4. "Echoes" by The Rapture
Shake all sorts of pictures, hips and limbs to this. now.

5. "Winter Hymn, Country Hymn, Secret Hymn" by Do Make Say Think
Yet another stunner to add to the most beautiful stack of records no one will ever hear. Do Your Part Listen.

6. "Room on Fire" by The Strokes
Meet me in the bathroom.

7. "Give Up" by The Postal Service
I dare you not to like this. Ok, except for quite the inappropriate packaging design and some teeth grinding lows in the Gibbard lyric department.

8. "Happy Songs for Happy People" by Mogwai
Nothing all that brilliant or unexpected here, but for some strange reason, i can't stop listening and being happy. These Scots know exactly what they're doing.

9. "I Am the Fun Blame Monster" by Menomena
This cd is packaged in a flipbook, the title is an anagram for "the first Menomena album", and it's an ear party. Get it at CD Baby and feast on this.

10. "Michigan" by Sufjan Stevens
i think i'll move there.

Can't help but mention:
"The Earth Is Not a Cold Dead Place" by Explosions in the Sky, "Befriended" by the Innocence Mission, "It Still Moves" by My Morning Jacket, "Rounds" by Four Tet... and, hell, OUTKAST.

Lost In Translation

2. Russian Ark

3. Mystic River

4. Spellbound

5. The Matrix Revolutions [*]

[*] This was crap, and i loved it, but i'm not proud of it. Please give me points for having the steel in my trousers to put it on here. Is anyone reading this deserted blog anyway? For those of you who are, you now have the right to fully discredit my opinion on anything. Stop reading. It's over.
