I learned a valuable lesson last week in church softball.
"If you're wearing shorts.... don't slide..."
It was the second inning, I was on first, guy up to bat hits into a double play, as I'm running to second I debate in my head, 'if I slide I’m safe if I don't I’m out'"
So knowing the game is close (6 to 5) I slide and take it for the team... I'm safe thanks to a good kick/nudge of the foot to knock the guys foot off the bag. So then the bench erupts as both I and the guy who hit the ball are safe. I stand up to see my leg covered in dirt and blood. Nasty
As the night goes on we proceed to win by 20 points and my sacrifice for the team gets sort of lost in the pages of history. Though I still have a nice bloody puss scab to remind me.
It’s been nearly a week and it still hasn't healed completely, that is to say if I shower or get it wet it sort of reactivates it and wearing pants becomes a predicament. Thus I've tried to wear shorts when at all possible but working where I do, I don't really have that option.
Then there's Sunday for church....
"Janelle I'm going to wear shorts to church this thing is just nasty and I don't want to get my pants all... you know..."
I get the look of, "Really? That is so tacky..." I get that look a lot btw.
So I coalesce for the sake of my marriage and peace in the Middle East and wear pants.
As we're sitting in church my wife accidentally kicks my wound while crossing her leg causing me to wince and groan in church... as well as leave a nice blood stain on my pant leg.
Anyway, so all that being said, don't slide into second wearing shorts.

Posted by: Scott at July 3, 2007 04:43 PMScotts right. I realize these items are relatively new to the medical field, and not everyone has heard of them. Good hustle though. I'll call you Chris Rose.

Posted by: Chris T. at July 3, 2007 10:44 PMYeah i tried the no stick gauze and it still stuck. Oh well. Its pretty good and scabby now so I should be fine. Mowed the grass today and did a bunch of work outside no problem.
