Magnificent Mark Mulder

OK, this doesn't happen much these days... a pitcher pitching 10 innings in one game. A pitcher pitching a complete game is almost a rare thing now a days with relievers and middle innning relief. But The cardinals Mark Mulder went 10 innings for the win today against those evil Houston Astros. Its just great because here the Astros dump millions out for Clemens, instead of millions out for Beltran, and they can't even score one run for the guy. Its great. Great Baseball. The cards are 11 and 5, not the best but they're getting it going. Marquis has an ERA of 1.25 or something amazing like that, Carpenter is struggling some, but is getting there. And Morris is surprising everyone and coming out with some amazing stuff and hitting the corners and getting some real heat on the ball. Suppan... well he's Suppan.

Baseball is such a great sport... hopefully the cards can keep it rolling. With Garciappara out in Chi town the cubs weak offense is even weaker... if that were possible. They need to trade something in a bad way, they had zero offense to begin with and now they're relying too much on unproven players. The astros have a good rotation but until berkman comes back they won't do much offensively in my opinion. And the reds... well they're cursed. Oh and Pittsburgh and Milwaukee... I rest my case. I feel bad for pitt not the brewers though, never liked miluakee, their beer is just bitter and terrible... except PBR which will always have a special place in my heart and blood.

STL has a great team this year and it seems that they've only improved this year (a difficult to bear as a Cub fan). I will respectfully disagree with your analysis of their offence though. They've added hitters (not sluggers) to their roster and we've finally gotten some speed. I'm more worried about our starting rotation than the much belabored absence of Alou and Sosa.

You should continue to grin though and hope that the good thing going on in STL will continue. Injuries (or hopefully some new curse of going to a new stadium) will likely be the only thing stopping this years run to the postseason.

YOu're right, Sosa and Alou were needing to go for the cubbies, but they didn't replace it with much. They should have forked out the moolah to land one of the stellar free agent hitters. There were so many and they could have used any of them. I'm always suprised that a team with so many fans and in a city that's so big can't fork out all the moolah and get a decent team.

I am disappointed in not seeing a game in Busch after this year but i don't live in stlouey so it won't affect me much. And Busch isn't like Wrigley or Fenway.

Watch out for the White Sox.

The free agents out there didn't fit Cubs needs. Beltran, though AMAZING in the post season was still an unknown and asking a fortune. Maglio and Drew were gambles in the outfield due to their DL history - the rest of the OF free agents were either old or mid-level players.

Our infield corners are there to stay, 2nd should be served well by Walker and Hairston - and well Nomar, we were hoping was going to be Nomar again.

If CHC injuries keep coming like they have been we'll be lucky to vie for second in the Central - let alone be anywhere close to the wildcard.

As for the CWS – OUCH - they’re on a blitzkrieg. But for the sake of keeping the family in tact I switched my allegiances several years back (serious fan through 87-92) and don’t plan on getting on that band wagon again.
