So i watched a clip of the new Wonka movie directed by Tim Burton, starring Johnny Dep, and produced I think by Brad Pitt and his wife that friend girl. It looked awful. I loved the first wonka and thought it was a classic that was beyond a remake, it was too good to be remade. To me its like Lawrence of Arabia, you know if they remade it, it would not top the first one. I think I'm being proven right by the latest trailer too, the Wonka (Depp) looks like a woman, which would be fine if he was a cross dresser but thats not in the story. Anyway, I was going to try to remain open minded about the whole remake because I sometimes like Tim Burton's flicks and Johnny Dep is usually in somewhat interesting movies, but this one kind of takes a childhood classic and beats it with the ugly stick. I'm not sure if I can go through a whole film starring at dep with that hairdo. Plus I mean how can you top the original Oompa Loompa, they're unbeatable. Anyway I wish i had a link to the trailer but I don't so go find it and be horrified.
Posted by holtonian at December 11, 2004 09:30 AM | TrackBackMy feelings are that, given what I've seen of the trailer, given what I know of other Tim Burton remakes, and given Depp's approach to things, I do not think, by any stretch, that Burton n' co are taking any sortof "literalist" or "traditionalist" approach to making the movie. He's going to do it his what, which will be damn wierd, with some absurdist humor, and little bits of heart and emotion strewn without.
So it'll be WWatCF (title abbreviated) in form and story pieces only. Tone, point, method, and all else will be different.

It was suspicousely like the origional, but I suspect that was your intention so it wasn't just a copy. Your secret window was, i believe, to be a serious film. This was a status you achieved to a point until the classic Depp characteristics came out. Keep up the good work, as a mature viewer your work suits my taste. Thanks for the enjoyable viewing time you have provided. Nice to see your a valued family man also, congratulations on putting them as your life long priority.
