My long lost friend Ed

A very interesting thing happened to me, you won't think so, but I did. My oldest friend (no not some old man) but my friend that I've been friends with the longest called me up out of the blue. It was great to talk to him and hear where he's gone and where he's going. He went to boarding school when we were in Jr High and we kept in touch all through out highschool. When he'd come back in town we'd hang out as if nothing had changed. Though college hit and we fell out of touch. I hadn't heard from him or his family since my freshman year at college.

Then again out of the blue he sent my parents a post card from Alaska last summer. My parents forwarded it to me and answered his simple question, "Whats new?" I told him about how four years of college went (abridged version), getting married, and in general how my life had changed over the past four years. We started sending post cards back in forth and then last night he gave me a call out of the blue.

He's sort of become a professional fisherman of sorts. He got his BA in Fisheries Management (I probably have that wrong but it entails boats and fishing). He's sort of become a jack of all trades when it comes to being a fisherman. He both understands the necessity of fishing and the economic benefit it has on its patrons but also sees the danger of overfishing. He spent last summer in Alaska fishing on a boat up there, this year he spent in the Carribean as the boat's primary mechanic, and then now he goes back to Alaska to fish the deep sea once more. He's attending grad school in the fall to pursue the more academic side of fishing and sailing. And its all very interesting. At least for two kids who grew up in the middle of America. For one to go become a deep sea fisherman that sounds pretty cool to me.
