Free Music for You: The NEW "East Ridge Song"

Bill and Ernie "Phil Spector" Paik pretend to be discussing the music during the recording session for the new "East Ridge Song," December 29, 2007.

In honor of East Ridge, Tennessee's recent triumphant announcement, Ernie Paik and I spent nine hours in his home studio Saturday recording a brand new, super hickified version of a certain minor local YouTube hit. I hope you find this new version to be a tad better, slicker, and a few seconds longer than its predecessor. Click here to hear/download it. (160 kbps mp3)

Things I'm Diggin': December 21, 2007

Jim Burer's new video, "The Late Greats," shot on film and inspired by the Wilco song of the same name.

Shoe Glue. This stuff actually fixed one of my shoes.

My nephew's instrumental cover of John Lennon and Yoko Ono's "Happy Xmas (War is Over)." Click here to hear it. Notice the eerily accurate distortion he employs during Yoko's verses.

The new "Secret Santa."

My official Dwight Schrute stress ball.

Time off.

Bringing good tidings to you and your kin.

Congrats to Ernie Paik, New President of the Shaking Rays

Ernie Paik, one of the hippest, coolest, most freakishly talented, and all-around nicest folks you will ever meet around these parts, has just been named president of the Shaking Ray Levi Society. This announcement can only mean good things for one of the most genuine, quality organizations in town. (Check out the very cool Dennis Palmer/Bob Stagner theme to Judy Mogul's Anti-Arktikos when you get a chance.)

Also, one of Ernie's Stephen Merritt/Magnetic Fields sites (yes, he has another) is mentioned in a new book on blogs and music by David Jennings.

In addition to being a band with a custom-made commissioned music service once featured prominently in Spin magazine, Ernie's copy was always a pleasure to read and edit (because I didn't have to edit it very much) during my time at The Pulse. Ernie also works as an engineer at TVA and once, after a California Guitar Trio show, stood outside Rhythm and Brews for over an hour with Joe Lance and myself, discussing everything from our favorite Yes albums (mine is Close to the Edge) to mullets.

I salute thee, Ernie.

Things I'm Diggin': December 13, 2007

(A new feature here at BillColrus.com...)

None of the presidential candidates.

Alex Frankel's book, Punching In.

My new Signal Mountain Library card.

Being 34.

Watching nerds pat themselves on the back. (Also, my recent, affectionate, and aggressive reintroduction of the word "nerd" into my vocabulary.)

Commas used in a simple series.

Writing tongue-in-cheek, one-act plays about potentially fatal business practices.

The online photo service, Photoworks.com.

People who are actually tolerant.

Hearing my son say "hi" repeatedly when I get home from work. And watching him sleep. And his mom for being an awesome one.

All the people who treat me well despite my constant moodiness and quirks.

Freedom.

Daylight.

Sleep.

Peace out.
