How many times during this campaign season have you heard somebody say "we're gonna take our country back" or "we need to take our country back" or we're taking our country back"?
This implies that somebody (Bush, Republicans, conservatives, etc.) took THEIR (Democrats, liberals, the "normal" people, etc.) country.
It should be pointed out that the country doesn't belong to anybody, except its people--as a whole. To equate political victory with territorial ownership is absurd, arrogant and idiotic. The country hasn't gone anywhere. People's minds have. To where, I have no idea.
Under this logic, if your party loses an election you no longer have a country.
How would people vote if there were no political parties to cling to?
The implication is that those in power are out of touch and don't represent the ideas of most people. Simple idea.
