Today, I went to the dentist (10:00 appointment, walked out of the office at 12:15). I had a filling fall out a few days ago, and the tooth has (obviously) been bothering me. In the midst of a "full oral exam," the dentist and dental assistant made notes about my "oral situation" and after they had both left the room, the assistant came back with an itemized 6-month "plan of action" totalling almost $8,000. Most of the cost was in the form of 6 "elective" crowns, which I could "elect" to have installed(?) should I need them. (I don't need them.) The rest was for cleaning (3 stages of cleaning) and a root canal.
All I need is the root canal for said hurty tooth and MAYBE a crown for that same tooth if I so "elect."
Anybody know of an affordable, fair, and/or nice dentist who could hook me up?
Going to a dental "franchise" is bad. Oh yeah, my tooth still hurts.

I need to have a tooth pulled and I intend to call his office soon. By the way, do you have dental insurance? If you do, that could explain such a high dental work estimate. Just a thought.

After a cleaning, I get asked if I want my teeth whitened, eyebrows waxed, wiper fluid checked, etc. One time they asked me if I wanted fries with my cleaning.
Sell, sell, sell. Dentists are just as bad as banks these days.
Posted by: podge at April 27, 2004 03:58 PMSounds like one of Dr. Major's bills. I went to Shallowford Family Dental, near the Shalloford Post Office, who's doing the same work for about 45% less. Go check out Dr. Gardenhire or Ankar, they're great.
All that work, is still gonna cost ya.

I'd still be fighting with my dentist about getting my four perfectly good wisdom teeth, which my orthodontist said could stay put, pulled, except that I graduated college and got off my parents' insurance and haven't been back since for him to get on my case about getting them out.
