I think you have received so much fan mail over this one because you called them "ghetto pics," which many seem to believe perpetuates the stereotype of all blacks living in ghettos. Perhaps a more appropriate title would have been "Hoochies at the Prom."

Actually a ghetto was created in Europe. It was a walled quarter in a European city to which Jews were restricted beginning in the Middle Ages.

The issue is unquestioned conditioning: how much we take what we've been conditioned with as 'normal' and the standards that spring from it. When we say that these are 'tasteless' or 'funny', from what perspective? Nothing has any innate quality - it's all dependent upon what people have been taught by society, their parents, etc. I looked at the pictures and found them funny, too, but ... I also realized that I have this reaction because I've been conditioned by a world view that has made me see certain things as 'tasteful' and others as 'tasteless'. If we were in another society/culture -- conditioned outside of the sexually-repressive environment of Western society that likes its dress, colors and emotions in the same way: muted and obscure -- then these things wouldn't be funny or considered tasteless. The reaction to the pictures, of course, has the not-so-subtle baggage of racism because it reflects the things that were used to make blacks into objects (their overt sexuality in their culture, etc.). The irony is that these concepts led to our current 'ethics' where we just take it as truth our own thoughts about what's tasteful, etc. Of course, only a very very small percentage of us become aware of conditioning, let alone become aware that one can choose to change it so ... this response will probably be considered in the same way the prom picturs are ;).

Since we Caucasians are now called Crackers, I demand that it be printed from now on as...the C-word. Since it is illegal for whitey to use the word nigger I think that it is only fair.

I stated that cracker should be printed as: C------, just like nigger is printed N-----. I did not make any mention of Say because I believe that all should be able to Say anything that one wishes. We are all Americans; it should not be illegal to use a certain word.

As far as being called African Queen, why should you be addressed so? What do you know about Africa? I bet your American roots go as far back as mine do. You are not an African anymore than I am a German or a Swede.

You are right. No one should be addressed as nigger, but if blacks keep using the word, whites will never stop using it. And if blacks would stop using the prefix African before the word American they would not sound like they are trying to be a separate people.
