Scarlett Johansson sounds weirder than she looks..

OK, the 20s song, Summertime, off of Unexpected Dreams - Songs From The Stars, is pretty great. But the new album is like sad Enya wannabe. And I don't care for her acting all that much..

900 foot Bono

Tennessee Aquarium - IMAX - U2 3D Saw this last night and have to say.. my mind is blown. Pretty amazing 3D, not too much Bono in your face.. like having a front row seat basically. Probably not as enjoyable for non-U2 fans, but for filmmaking types--still watchable.

Amazon's DRM-free music store

Just purchased the Drive-By Truckers latest as an mp3 album from Amazon.com. 256k and DRM free for about $.50/track is pretty great, plus it loads directly into iTunes with the downloader. Have to say I'm loving the experience..

Gogol Bordello - This is just weird..

I really like this band and wasn't totally opposed to Earth Aid or whatever it was called, but this is just weird.

But this is good:

Live Earth thoughts.. UPDATED

SOS | Live Earth | 7.7.07

Madonna can play guitar? WHO GIVES A CRAP?!?

Is Will Ferrel the drummer for Red Hot Chili Peppers?

Apparently watching 18 hours of concert programming on TV is good for the environment.

Where did WolfMother come from? They rocked out.

Lenny Kravitz and the The Police are still pretty cool.

Is Duff pregnant?

To some people, OK liberals, Al Gore is the new messiah. Melissa Etheridge made this very clear.

Alicia Keys.. WOW!

Many bands NEVER sound good live. These include: The Smashing Pumpkins, The Beastie Boys, Linkin Park, and many R&B; acts I don't know the names of. Foo Fighters as well, but they make up for it in sheer rocking-outness.

Neil Finn of Crowded House handled the lights going out pretty well.

Cat "Yusef" Stevens - cool!

I would like to have seen Sting or Andy Summers push Kanye right off the stage.

Was Alec Baldwin in Hawaii?

Spinal Tap.. YES!!

Those scientists in Antarctica stole the show..

Some people say throwing 10 concerts around the world isn't doing anything to save the environment. I don't care, a show's a show. We'll see all the fallout with the right wing next week, but I tell you what, Al Gore could walk right into the presidency if he'd announced a run for the White House tonight. Oh well..

Let Love Rule!

Put ALL of your music online with MP3tunes

I am only 107 hours away from having my entire music library backed up online in a folder that will then sync with any computer I set up the Oboe client on. I LOVE this idea, so we'll see how well it all works out.

MediaMaster. Listen to all my music.. If you want to. Which you probably don't.

UPDATE: So, this is a neat tool, but, it does not seem to handle sharing music as I thought. Also, a few of the java apps built-in to it do not work that well, but the main uploading interface does well enough.

MediaMaster seems to be the new thing to try, so here goes. I'm currently uploading tracks and you should see more as they appear. My questions are:

Do these tracks expire (as they did with Avvenu) or can they live up there forever?
Is the limit 4GB? That's pretty good for an online music sharing space..
Will it stream well?
Why can't I upload a playlist? That was the cool thing in Avvenu..

So try it out and tell me what you think.

Rocking out!

After Prince completely rocked out at the Superbowl tonight I see this rumor that The Police will possibly go on tour this year. While I'm not exactly sure how I feel about the reunion, The Police are the greatest band ever and I am willing to do whatever it takes to get tickets.

Free videos

I like how you're supposed to pay for music online, but videos are generally free. What's the deal with that?
This is pretty cool, I hope MD makes a comeback, or a debut since Soul Coughing was never that well-known.

Sweet.. Found Mike Doughty's (of Soul Coughing fame) Skittish and Rockity Roll at McKay's today for 5.95 and sold some old software for $16. My birthday present to me, 2 new Cds and $10!

What we're listening to

Found some awesome children's songs at music.download.com. Mr. Donahue's Monsters is really good. At least check out Call Me Chicken. It's wonderful.

U2?

Not that I have to see U2 this year, but Kerry really wants to, so we tried getting gouged by ticketmaster to no avail, since Fan club members got a ton of tix presale, then scalpers got the rest and put them all on ebay. My goal is to keep winning bids on ebay til we get some good seats, then welsh on all the "legal contracts" with scalpers online. They don't like it, not getting their $250 for $50 tickets, guess what, neither do I like paying it. At least go stand outside the venue. These people aren't even in the same city.

Anybody been nailed to the wall for not following through with ebay bids?

Cracker Countrysides - 1 Thumb Down

OK. This is hard to say, but.., I finally bought a Cracker album I don't like. Countrysides is country/honky-tonk mix of Cracker's least interesting or entertaining work ever. As much as I like the country-leaning songs on previous albums, this really didn't rock my boat. They seemed to be straying away from country altogether with Forever, but if it's tears in beers they were going for here, they got it. They really took the alt out of alt-country.

Having that said, I really wish I'd gone with the album I knew would be good, O Cracker Where Art Thou, a collaboration with Leftover Salmon. Maybe it's the bluegrass that works, and the wannabe throwback to the Eagles that just doesn't.

Driveby Truckers

I am really enjoying Decoration Day by Driveby Truckers. Altcountry is so cool, or am I getting in on another trend way too late?
