doesn't mean I have to like Frank Lloyd Wright."
Yes among the many travesties in my life, I don't care for FLW's 1970's styled rest area architecture. Yes he's influential, yes he was ahead of his time, yes I'm a bad person... But if I'd had a mullet in the 50s rather than the 80s, would I have been as big?
Now I.M. Pei...
Posted by cmwillis at June 10, 2006 11:15 PM | TrackBackI was a huge fan of FLW when I was younger and thinking about being an architect. After visiting a couple of his non-waterfall related houses, I've discovered that lots of his stuff is completely insane. There's some cool stuff in the houses that I've seen, but most of it is completely impractical and kind of awkward. He does get credit for realizing that nature is better than any stinking house he could design and therefore designing some of his best stuff around and into the setting. I don't know about this Pei fellow you mention and I've heard that DaVinci was a real dimwhit too.

I.M.Pei, huh?
You accuse FLW of "inventing the 60s in the 30s" and all I.M. Pei has done is REinvent the 20s/30s (Bauhaus) in the 90s and 00s.
I'll stick with FLW, although I do like Pei's work at the Louvre, which BTW is part of the whole DiVinci Code craze.
