*I remember when I used to blog. More than that: I was a blogger. I don't know what's happened to make me stop writing so much. I think it's vanity. I used to be so vain that I had to write something everyday in hopes that people would like me. Now, I err in the opposite direction: I'm so concerned that people will hang on my every word, that I don't want to write at all. So basically, whether I blog or don't blog, I'm a big jerk.
*Monroe is apparently becoming a haven for washed up bands of the mid 90's. Last week, the Gin Blossoms played at the Paradox. I have nothing against the Gin Blossoms, but I don't really have anything for them either. Apparently, they played in the Monroe area even when they were popular. But I guess the Paradox is trying to cash in on such events now because I heard on the radio that Seven Mary Three is playing there soon. I used to love me some Seven Mary Three. That was 1995. The ad was still playing "Cumbersome" and other songs from that 1995 album. It's kind of sad, really. Before you know it, The Presidents of the United States of America will be singing about peaches at the Paradox.
*It will not stop raining here. Before I moved into my current apartment, I was worried it might flood. If it hasn't flooded by now, I'm not worried that it ever will.

then you did
then you didn't
I remember when I wanted to start monroeblogs
then I didn't have any money
and I still don't
I'm 25 and feel old
Posted by: JosiahQ at June 28, 2004 03:48 PMJosiah, lack of money is no excuse for not starting monroeblogs. Hell, you've got several other cityorcollegeblogs, and some of them don't even have any action.
Christin, I hear ya. Blogging used to be such a therapeutic outlet for me, and now I seldom post. Such is life, I guess.
And maybe I'm living in the past, but I kinda wanted to go see the Gin Blossoms. I could care less about 7M3 or The Presidents of the USA, though. (Although that "Peaches" song was kinda catchy....)
Posted by: jon at June 28, 2004 11:31 PMBlogging is soooo 2002.
But um... commenting on blogs is still hip somehow.
Posted by: Duane at June 29, 2004 09:24 AMI just love it when young men have use curse words to show cool and sophisticated they are, don't you? No one will mistake these for fundamentalist Christians. Perhaps I'm misasing something, but is it helpful to trivialize hell and damnation? I'm not sure how the Lord is honored in this. On the other hand, it could be the result of a limited vocabulary.
Posted by: Pastor Booth at July 1, 2004 04:13 PMWhy don't you tell us what you really think, Pastor Booth?
Posted by: jon at July 1, 2004 11:17 PMPastor Booth, please forgive me for the preceding comment which sounds utterly disrepectful in this impersonal context. And Christin, feel free to delete it and this (leaving the following).
Pastor Booth, if you want to convince me to quit using interjections like "hell," you'll need to take another tact. I didn't say it to seem cool or sophisticated; I'm happy to say I'm a fundamentalist Christian in the eyes of the world; and if I may say so myself, my vocabulary isn't terribly limited. I don't buy the argument about trivializing hell and damnation, but maybe I'm missing something too.
Posted by: jon at July 2, 2004 08:40 AMI thought the comments section of a blog was where you were supposed to say what you really think.
Jon, perhaps you could explain to me how the use of such words is helpful. What purpose DO they serve? They are certainly offensive to many, so I assume you have some positive argument for there use. It seems to me to trivialize the real hell (and real damnation) when such words are used out of context as simple "interjections." What, exactly, is being interjected?
Posted by: Pastor Booth at July 2, 2004 09:15 AMRight, that's why I asked you to forgive me for being sarcastic.
I really don't have time right now to present an argument, or to have a lengthy discussion on the use of language. For now, I'll say this: I try to imitate my betters (particularly elders or presbyters) in all areas, including language. Some of those men say "hell" (and other "curse" words) in ways that you obviously view to be wrong. What do you say I work on the bibliography for my position, and we can talk about it next time you're in town, maybe over coffee or drinks or something?
Posted by: jon at July 2, 2004 05:51 PMJon,
I was not offended by your sarcasm, and I would welcome a discussion with you over this topic.
Dick Cheney likes to swear. So did Luther. I once her a rumor that Sclissel dropped the f-bomb over some burnt knishes, but that's probably just hearsay.
back to work...
Posted by: JosiahQ at July 6, 2004 10:59 AMWell, that makes it OK then...
Posted by: Pastor Booth at July 9, 2004 10:26 AMNaw, I dont' think its ok, I just think the imagery of Rev. Schlissel getting really angry over burnt knishes is funny
if I were a rich man...
