Let it be known that it really irritates me when a person uses the word "assume" and others feel obligated to say, "you know what happens when you assume!: it makes an ASS out of U and ME!" *wink, wink*
Yeah. We've heard that 6 billion times. It may have been funny the first 100,000 times, but it's kind of lost its luster. Resist the urge.
Posted by christin at November 22, 2003 10:59 AM | TrackBackI promise I am not making this up, but like your previous post about shyness, this also happened to me the other day--Tuesday in fact, someone said that to me to ridicule me in fromt of my friends. i almost lost my cool.
Posted by: Matthew at November 22, 2003 01:52 PMEasy there, Tiger... you know what happens when you lose your cool, right? You make an OO out of C and L! Uh, I mean...er... somethin' like that... take me home.
Posted by: andy at November 22, 2003 02:41 PMMy HS math teacher would mock it and say: "When you make an assumption, you make an ass out of you and umption.
It was funny ... at the time.
Posted by: mike at November 22, 2003 11:33 PMI hate when someone says that and the assumption is a safe one. For instance, at the teller window someone will come up and make a deposit and say nothing about wanting to cash a check but will put that check underneath or in between the checks to be deposited. Now the assumption that each one of those checks underneath the depsoit slip are part of that deposit is a safe assumption. In this case, when someone does the ASS-U-ME thing it goes way above A-NN-OY thing.
Posted by: troy at November 24, 2003 12:21 PMWhen ppl say stupid things like that to me, I laugh. I laugh long, loud and hard. So much that it sounds like I've gone insane and they begin to feel uncomfortable and look at the others nervously as I heartily slap my knee. Then I quickly stop laughing and look at them w/ cold, dead eyes and say "That's not funny". A bit rude, maybe. But it's their fault for being cheeky!!!
