Am I alone in thinking that white Crown Victoria's should be unavailable to the general public?
Posted by christin at October 29, 2003 01:08 PM | TrackBackI absolutely agree. Silver, either. Another good question is why would anyone want to buy a car that looks just like a cop car?
Posted by: John at October 29, 2003 01:30 PMNO! you are not alone at all. the ol' civilian crown vic has nearly given me many a heart attack.
Posted by: Honi at October 29, 2003 03:23 PMOr we could ask why anyone would want a crown victoria in the first place. It's just a cheap excuse for an eldorado. And yeah, you look like a cop. That might suit old fogies who wear cowboy hats, but it makes normal people look fat. It's easy to tell civilians and cops apart. Cops use cop white, civilians only get to use civilian white. It's kind of like government black. They're distinct colors. That and those mayberry hub caps make them stand out to me.
Posted by: Gray at October 29, 2003 06:23 PMLOL...I for one think it's a free deterrent. I mean, law enforcement doesn't have to put any more effort out yet when you get within sight of one of these on the interstate, everyone slows down and starts driving in compliance with every traffic law out there. I don't like it anymore than you do, but looking at it from the policeman's perspective, I have to appreciate the effect it has on deterring us.
You are right though, it's still not nice. But it sure is funny to see someone throw on their brakes when they start to pass one of them on the interstate and it's being driven by a 70-year old man wearing bermuda shorts, black socks, and sandals.
Yeah, I bet it's pretty fun to be the owner of one of those bad boys. You can just fly by and laugh as everyone moves out of your way.
Posted by: Christin at October 30, 2003 09:57 AMBoth my brother and good friend have owned Crown Vics and they were sweet rides. I don't see how they compare to the El Dorado though... they closer resembled my LTD - though the black LTD was way more hip when stylin' down the lane. My brother's Crown Vic actually was an old detective's rig and came complete with spotlights.
Posted by: The Dane at October 30, 2003 11:02 AMOh I was just hastily generalizing my racist bias towards stereotypical town cars. the eldorado is the only one that stands out in my mind, probably because I spent a freezing winter shining a rich neighbor's fully loaded baby a few years back. the crown vic just doesn't have any styling, it reminds me more of an old park avenue a friend had now that I think of it. it's like that car they used in equilibrium specifically because it didn't have any styling.
