Miscellany

Annie's moving toTexas today! Yeehah!

DO NOT see Dreamcatcher. Thomas, Emily and I seem to be on a streak of picking out bad movies. Prior to Dreamcatcher, we had watched The Life of David Gale, which is another waste of time. We, unfortunately, tried to wash our heads clear of Dreamcatcher by watching Head of State. I'm sorry.

Last night, I dreamed in deja vu. I actually dreamed of an event that happened several years ago as if it were about to happen. It was very odd.

I have had a major desire to buy a new car. I think the fact that no fewer than five people I know have gotten or are about to get new cars has something to do with it. Don't you think I would look fabulous in one of these?

It is indescribably hot today.

I'm ready for fall TV to start. I need to stop wasting my time watching movies and start wasting time by watching a little TV.

Finally, I've started on Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. The nice thing about waiting so long to start reading any of the H.P. books is that as soon as I finish reading one, I have the next one waiting for me. After I read this one, I'll have to actually wait for the next installment, just like everyone else. It's a rough life I lead, isn't it?

Dang, I'm really sorry about seeing all 3 of those films in a row! that might almost destroy my love for and hope in film!

I wouldn't say Life of David Gale was a complete waste of time. It was a sad and depressing movie with its fair share of problems but I also think it was well-done. And no, I'm not willing to fight and defend this movie so don't even try to make me :)

Don't worry Hollie, I've got the same view of movie discussions you do: I'll say how I felt about it and don't feel the need to argue about it. I do agree with you that it was well made. I don't feel like a lesser person for having seen it, but I don't think I'm a better person for having seen it either.

Re: _Dreamcatcher_.

I refuse to see any film with members or former members of boybands. I find that it's a good policy.

That's a good policy in general, but Donnie Wahlberg was in The Sixth Sense, too and I liked that movie.

Harry Potter #2, here I come.

This is my third summer here, and I STILL can't believe how HOT it gets in this wretched state...and even more this wretched city that sits in a bowl of heat. Groan.

Two book titles have me thinking about what I do with my time. I haven't read either, but the titles alone are affecting me. One is "Television or Dominion" by Schlissel and the other is "Don't Waste Your Life" by John Piper. If that one were written by anyone less than Piper, I would think it would be shallow "how to" book. But I bet John Piper could cure us of wasting time. And he could show us the joy we're missing.

Do you mind unsolicited comments or is it gratifying that more than just good friends are reading your blog?

Yeah, I've been avoiding that Schlissel book myself. It's not like I sit in front of the TV a lot. I probably watch about an hour a week. Though I have a list of three movies in this post alone, I don't really watch that many.

And no, I don't mind unsolicited comments at all. I like them.

If you want a sporty coupe, you can't do better than the Acura RSX... and it's in the same price range as the Solara.

Yeah, those are awesome, but I'm afraid I'll be living with what I've got for a while. It's almost paid for, and there's a lot to be said for that...someday, though.
