Ok, I'm swearing off of all fast food forever. Just saw the documentary Super Size Me, and it grossed me out to the extent that I'm never eating at McDonalds again. Ever.
Super Size Me, which won the award for best director at Sundance, chronicles the filmmaker's experiment in what would happen if he ate nothing but McDonalds' food for a month. The results shocked even his own doctors. Before he began, he went to several doctors, all of whom gave him a clean bill of health, and who told him that they thought that the worst that could happen on a month of McD's was elevated triglcerides. Instead, he ended up with a liver that was in the same shape as someone who spent a month binge drinking and carrying around an extra 25 pounds of fat.
Admittedly, most people don't eat at McDonalds for all three meals day in and day out, and yes, the film was designed to make the viewer want to stop eating so much fast food, but it's still pretty gross what a steady diet of fast food will do to a person.

That or a meat packing plant, chicken processing plant, or pizza rolling factory. I love those foods too much to have it ruined. Its like learning who the wizard of oz really is, its kind of a let down.
Posted by: holton at Junio 18, 2004 05:59 PMWith the exception of meat processing facilities, I don't think that it's a good thing if you get grossed out watching how your food gets made. I've toured pretzel, potato chip, and lebanon bologna factories and never once got grossed out, because there's nothing gross about those foods. Problem is, McDonalds and its ilk are inherently nasty, and in order to stand to eat it, you have to forget that it's nasty.
I keep threatening to drag my brother to see the movie because everytime a Checkers commercial comes on TV, he always says how much he likes Checkers, which is the nastiest of all fast food hamburgers.
Posted by: kathryn at Junio 28, 2004 02:56 AMive watched this movie and i havent touched mc donalds since and even when i would go there once in a wile i would always lose my apitite in the middle if a burger and one time and i still get grossed out taking or even thinking about this but i found a finger nail in my burger ewwwwwwwwwwwwww never a gain will i even step on their property!
