Movie Stereotypes

I saw a commercial for Denzel Washington's new movie Out of Time, which I'm kind of interested in seeing because it was filmed in my part of Florida. Anyway, my brother pointed out that in the clips on the commercial, everyone was wearing Hawiian shirts, as is general operating proceedure for movies set in Florida. Apparently folks out in Hollywood think that Floridians run around all the time in bermuda shorts and hawiian shirts, when in reality, the only people in Florida who actually wear hawiian shirts are tourists. Perhaps Hollywood types get that idea in their heads that everyone dresses like that because their only experience with the Sunshine State is from visiting tourist trap places. So, for all of you folk who get your impression of Florida from movies, let it be known that we dress just like everyone else, and we don't all speak with southern accents.

obviously people in florida don't have southern accents, b/c it isn't part of the South.

You know, April...I really hope you were being sarcastic with that comment....Florida is in the south and if you didn't know that, you're a dumbass.

The only "southern" thing about Florida is that it is located geographically in the southern United States. Florida is NOT part of "the south". This is very important.

you better be joking about Florida not being in the "South". it's just as southern as any other state in the south. there are southern accents here just as thick as those from texas up to Virginia. its people like you and those damn yankees and tourists that make the rest of the country look at us differently.
