In the late hours of the night, when all quality programming on t.v. has ended, (quality being debatable to begin with!!) I have occasionally watched an episode of "Elimidate". For those of you who don't know the premise of this show, let me explain. One person meets up with four other people for a potential love match. For example, a man meets four women at a restaurant. By the end of the meal, he has to eliminate one of the girls, and the others move on to round two. They continue the date at the park, or a bar, and eventually, he is left with one date.
I don't know where they find people for this show, but they are shameful, shameful, and shameful. I'm not kidding. The girls are hoochies and the guys are pigs. Without a doubt, the first girl eliminated is the more reserved, quiet girl who admits no interest in lesbianism. She doesn't stand a chance with this guy who wants to see just how far the gals will go to win. And they do go far. There is no subtly about their words or actions. They will do anything to get to the next level. They have no self-respect at all. Watching them makes me ill.
The guys are no better. I've never seen an episode where the guy didn't pick the nastiest, easiest girl. Watching the girls fight over him, he leers and cheers when they go to the extreme to get his attention. It's revolting.
The situation is reversed occasionally, and it will be a girl with four guys. It's not usually as nasty, but the elements are still the same. It's still a nauseating process.
PLEASE tell me the whole world doesn't date like this!! Patrick and I met early on in college and I never ran into this kind of behavior in the dating realm. Have any of you seen this show? I am not a fan, but I just wondered if I'm the only one who feels the need to take a hot, sterilizing shower after seeing it. I realize people don't go out on group dates like this, but is the desperation and lack of self respect this widespread in the secular dating world, or are they only acting that way because they are in a t.v. "competition"?
On a sidenote, a guy in one Patrick's classes actually went on Elimidate, and made a gigantic azz of himself by jumping into a fountain with all his clothes on to impress the girl. Uh, yes, he got eliminated in the first round.
I can't believe Pat knows a real deal elimidate celebrity! No, I think the dating world is not actually like this. Just makes good late night trash shows. Surely not!!???!!!!
Posted by: Ashley at December 16, 2003 09:04 AMI saw 2 episodes when I was staying at Ricky's house. I saw one in which the guy actually picked a decent girl, she was quiet and I thought she was gone right off the bat. She didn't even let him kiss her on the lips during the show...maybe he thought she was going to be a challenge. He seemed to want to be, decent for lack of a more fitting word. The other episode I saw...well, let's just say the girls were to the point of taking their clothes off and cat-fighting to win the guy. Interesting.
Posted by: SonofThunder at December 16, 2003 09:16 AMI once heard the show described as "Wild Kingdom with Hot Tubs". I like that. Seems appropriate.
