If you missed the Primetime interview Diane Sawyer did with Mel Gibson last night, you missed an important event.
Highlights:
Responding to Ms. Saywer's pushing of "scholars" and their views which contradicted Mr. Gibson's: "Read the Gospels, Diane." Amen.
The juxtaposition between Dominic Crossan's truly goofy comments with Gibson's smart and terse riposte's was priceless. Summary: Crossan is too full of inebriated nonsense. Gibson has practical, real-world truth soundly based on Scripture and Church teaching.
But the best of the whole hour was the opening minutes. Gibson just flat-out gave the Gospel in a few sentences: Jesus opened the way to heaven.
Don't see that every day.
There were some moments that had me questioning, but overall, I think God is using Mr. Gibson in a mighty way.

I was moved by his description of his own struggle with depression (or spiritual banktrupcy, whichever you want to call it). I don't have to love or agree with every single thing about the movie whenever I see it, but I do see it as his sincere expression of faith. Boy, am I glad I missed Crossan. Bleech. Why can't ABC ever consult a DECENT New Testament scholar??
