Hey there, we don't know each other but I just wanted to thank you for hosting these songs. I searched Yahoo and your site came up. I'm a big Sufjan fan and I think these songs are some of his best songs ever. Thank goodness for the internet!

I live in South Korea, and was visiting family in Australia in December last year. It was late on the night of Wed/Thur, December 23/34, and my wife and I were driving along a dark, rainy road and caught "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing" on a youth/alternative rock station(!) on the car radio.

I had to know who had sung it. The DJ gave the name, but I couldn't guess at the spelling. It took some time and some google searches to eventually track down this marvellous page and three heavenly downloads. These songs shall be treasured on my computers. What a blessing!

Does anyone know the history behind these three Christmas EPs or can point me to where I can learn more? Where were they originally released? Were they online only? I had never heard of these until recently, and my google search isn't finding much. Thanks! -Bill

These were actually a private release, sold only via CD-R to audience around Christmas time some years ago.

I am so delighted with Sufjan's music that after finding this site by google I decided to contact AsthmaticKitty and ask for permission to broadcast the Xmas album on our Polish, Wroclaw-based academic Radio LUz.

A friend had a link to this site on his page, and alas, I have recovered not only the lost name, but the unknown sound of Sufjan Stevens--I LOVE IT!!!!

I've been so burned out on Christmas and Christmas music, but these are just wonderful.

I only had volume I, and a few tracks to the other two volumes. So, thanks a bunch for these albums. They are brilliant, and put you in the right mood for some holiday cheer! Even for a cynical, negative person like myself.

Yeah, they're not technically legal but Asthmatic and Sufjan don't seem to mind their distribution so far - really, it's just more great PR for sufjan (not that he needs any).

Casey, that's an interesting point, because I have heard that a lot of Indie bands actually encourage file sharing as a form of promotion. I have a friend who disliked Sufjan before, but after hearing these Christmas songs he has grown to appreciate Sufjan's music. Maybe it'll lead to purchases down the road?

However, I have long since deleted all of my shared (read: pirated) music from my collection. It bothers me to think that I may have obtained these illegally, and if the CD's were for sale I would buy them. The whole part about them being a limited distribution for sale is news to me.

Who is that singing on "We're goin' to the country" and a few others? Sounds a little like Ian Sefchik, the guy who used to sing in Creeper Lagoon.

I can't begin to tell you how much I'm loving this album. I'm so glad I stumbled across this site.

Gee, I'm a nerd because I actually care about doing the right thing. I've got to go tell all my friends that I'm really some boring fuddidud and ask them to help me figure out which bit torrent client to use so I can start sharing copyrighted music like the cool people (even if it is illegal).

Anon (if that's your real name), I've got several SS/AK albums on my Christmas list and whatever I don't get I will be buying. :^)

So, I downloaded the music, but it wouldn't play on my computer. And I even filled out the insurance quote thing so that I could feel less guilty about downloading the good free music. Is there anything special I need to do in order to listen to the albums.

Katie, the files are compressed to save on bandwidth and make downloading easier. You need Winzip to open the file and once you do that you've just got MP3's which should be playable on your PC with a media player such as Windows Media Player, WinAmp, etc.

Is there any official or unofficial artwork to go with the albums? Also who all played on them; just Sufjan?

I'm pretty sure these albums were done by Vito, Sufjan's pastor, with his wife as their Christmas card one year. My brother who knows vito sent me one of the originals for a present this year, it's all DIY stuff, like they just printed their own labels and put it in an envelop and it says merry christmas from vito, (vito's wife's name), and sufjan stevens.

BBC Radio Ulster (here in Northern Ireland) played "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing" on Friday might. It took me an hour to track down who the performer was (Sufjan) and then to this page for the download. Wonderful wonderful stuff!

I hate christmas music. So thank god for Sufjan. I'll be swapping out my mom's Norah Jones (or whatever Christmas crap they found this year) for these and be in a much better frame of mind.

A Christian musician who can writes meaningfully and skillfully, what a strange concept. I've never heard Christmas music that is so honest and humbly written. Sufjan is clearly focussed on what is important. The songs I hear on the radio tend to make me sick to my stomach, but Sufjan has definately got it right. Beautiful.

wow, this is a great resource. i'm starting to look for some different types of christmas music, other than all the traditional stuff that gets played to death. there's some cool mellow stuff i found, like royce campbell, montgomery bruce, etc... you can find them on itunes, myspace i think.
