I would be interested to read another perspective on the history of conservatism. I think (from the little I read) the author of this article may have mistakenly use the word "conservatives" when he should have said "republicans." Conservatism used to mean those who wanted to conserve something: family values, land, water, resources, community. I would define myself as a conservative, but would certainly not lump myself with republicans as a whole these days. Thanks for provoking thought. :) (Even if I am sleep deprived and have very little brain function.)
