I think that I solved my problem. I have also played with the format of my page a little bit. I'm still tinkering and will fix some more when I find more time.
So what was the solution? Through process of elimination I figured out that when I removed the top and bottom border on my blog body I started getting the shifting. I still don't understand why but I have learned with code that you don't always get to know the answer why. You just fix it and move on. However, if anyone knows why this happens I would be glad to hear from you. It still annoys me.
I realize that there are still a couple of problems with the layout that I am trying to fix. The text on the left side extends past its borders so it cuts off some letters. This should be easy to fix.
Let me know what you think of the new layout and any suggestions that you might have.

I've also added the pipe ( | ) as a divider between my posts listed in the Categories section. I think it makes it a little more easy to distinguish the links. I've toyed with a couple of other dividers but decided on the pipe. I'll keep tweaking.
