Are Rainbows Gay?

We are trying to unify the theme in Jackson's room and one idea Kerry and I like is to run with the kites and paint some clouds on the wall with rainbows. But then there's the obvious question, Could it somehow turn him gay? Of course I don't believe this, but somewhere deep in the back of my open-mind is the homophobic vision of a long talk when he's 18 that ends with me saying to Kerry, You had to have the rainbows.. Why didn't you just keep him in a dress and buy him Barbies?

But, it is God's sign to Noah right? We don't want the Noah's Ark theme, but is it possible that rainbows aren't completely gay? And even if so, can't we (heteros) claim it back?

Please tell me your honest opinion, Is God's sign to Noah that He'll never again destroy us by water totally in the hands and on the bumpers of the Queer Eye guys, or can we heterosexuals still claim it?

Wow. I didn't realize there were so many comments here. Well, as an update, we never put up rainbows in his room--not out of homophobia or gay-bashing, just pure laziness.

However, I fully believe that a person cannot be turned gay by any paraphenalia, books, or even converted by the "Gay Movement." People are who they are for whatever reasons and God loves them all. That said, we are judged by our actions and sometimes our motivations and my only goal in raising my son is to teach him to love all people, to respect God, and to feel good about himself--no matter what!!!

You should know by now that people are born gay and that putting up 6 colors in his room can't turn him that way.
Even if he did happen to be born gay or whatever you see as a social negativity you should love him the same no matter what.
So I think if your gonna be so questionable about it f*** it don't put it up, and while your at it leave the triangle out too cause thats also a gay symbol that the germans made the homosexuals wear during the war so you want to claim the triangle too or what?

I bought my daugher a Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon Club Shirt for Christmas. Basically, she's really into Pink Floyd, however, her friends started questioning her sexual preference because of it.

I think it's a bunch of crap that anyone can begin to draw a conclusion on sexual prefence simply by looking for a rainbow. Pink Floyd's prism and rainbow design have been around for over 30 years--OPENLY gay pride has not.

Take back the rainbow and let those that are seeking their "pot of gold" look elsewhere...

If he is your first child, chances are that he is not gay. However, mutant genes could be afoot and could possibly have a hand in the possible gay turnout of your son, but it is unlikely. There is evidence behind what I say. If you want, pick up "Genome" by Matt Ridley. A lot of these things are really "written" in the genes.

Just my two cents..

I always thought that the rainbow represented a bow and arrow pointed up at God, that he was already ready to do what it took to reconcile us with him.

Actually, I got that image from Joe Novenson at Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church.

Go for the rainbow. It won't make him gay.

I would go so far as to say that Christians may even have a responsibility to take that symbol back.

Dang it.... I need to proofread before posting... "simple" in the first sentence should be "symbol".

It's just so funny that the rainbow a symbol of God's promise is thrown about as a simple of sin. I just have to wonder what God's take on this whole thing is. I see it as a reminder of God's mercy despite the idiocy of humans.

As for a symbol, I'd say there are already symbols you'd never use despite their more favorable origins.

When I was in Japan I was slightly stunned to come across a temple that was covered in swastikas. However, the fact of the matter was the temple was centuries older than any Nazi movement.

Here in "the South" I hear a lot of rhetoric about Confederate flags and how they are NOT a symbol of slavery. Yet I never see any black people flying them. The only people I see that bear Confederate flags are white people. So you go and draw your own conclusions.

I would say don't let other people's immorality destroy a beautiful part of creation, especially for your child. However, we live in a world that will try to warp his mind into thinking things that are not true. So don't give them any loopholes that they could use to twist his mind.

Gee, that's a depressing comment. Sorry. =(

It's only gay if your rainbows don't curve and the colors don't blend.

Gays took the rainbow and made it their own. Just like they did with earrings and Michigan State University.
