From Drell's Descants (emphasis added):
A Statement From Our Blog Theologian, Alice Linsley:The Rt. Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori is the Presiding Bishop Elect, having been elected on the 6th ballot on June 18, 2006. Her election brings a clear answer to the question of ECUSA's future. She supports the homosexual agenda in ECUSA and in many ways is one of the most liberal of the candidates. Her election will cause at least 3 dioceses, and many other conservative folk, including this writer, to seek affiliation with another branch of the Church that is committed to catholic orders, discipline and doctrine.
Many Episcopalians have supported women in holy orders, but this election comes at a time when the issue of women bishops in the Church of England is being heatedly debated. The Anglo-Catholics, Forward in Faith, and even Evangelicals who are opposed on the grounds of Scripture and Tradition to the ordination of women find this election as disturbing as the election of Gene Robinson because again ECUSA acts with disregard for the sensibilities of Anglicans worldwide.
The Rt. Rev. Robert Duncan stated in a Anglican Communon Network press release: "This election asserts once again that it is our autonomy and revolutionary character that is most dear to us. Any words the General Convention might speak about compliance with the Windsor Report will have to be read in light of this election."
He went on to say, "The Anglican Communion Network will continue to gather into fellowship and mission orthodox Anglicans from within the Episcopal Church, from the Common Cause Partnership and from the Continuing Anglican Churches in North America. The Network Dioceses will remain the dioceses they have been, constitutionally and legally, while at the same time assessing how to give ever more pastoral care and protection to those who have been shut out. The election of the 26th Presiding Bishop is a stunning development. Nevertheless, it remains our analysis that the decisive moment in contemporary Anglican history was the confirmation vote on the Bishop of New Hampshire in August of 2003, the consequences of which continue to unfold."
Some have feared that ECUSA would become the gay and feminist liturgical church of America. That fear is now substantiated. Doubtless many who were hanging in there hoping that there might be a change of heart, will leave for other branches of Christianity. I am one of them. I will join the Antiochian Orthodox Church. It will come as a great relief to worship and fellowship once again in Christian peace and dignity in the catholic tradition.
Godspeed, Ms. Linsley.
