We got a call late last night from Anna's mom. The doctors and surgical team have decided there is nothing more that can be done. Delane remains sedated, and his family has decided, along with the doctors' counsel, not to bring Delane back to consciousness. One of the doctors spent a long time with him in ICU, speaking to him and saying goodbye. Many of the rehabilitation staff he's worked with over the past three and a half years have also come by to say goodbye.
Now we wait.
The next update that will come will alert you to Delane's death.
Pray for us.
[Note: I have deleted the previous updates and the comments with them. But only because the updates are now superfluous. The comments I keep and treasure in my heart. Thank you.]
Posted by Clifton at December 16, 2004 07:12 AM | TrackBack(2 Cor 1:3-7 NIV) Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, {4} who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. {5} For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. {6} If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. {7} And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort.

Posted by: Jim N. at December 16, 2004 10:35 AMWhen I lost my brother this year, it was sudden and without warning. Your situation has helped me realise how much easier that is, rather than having the weeks and days and hours waiting - grieving even before the loss. My heart feels so heavy for you.
May the Lord of mercy ease the burdens of your souls and ease Delane from a life of suffering into a life where pain and disease have no place.
We continue to pray for you all.
