It's Coming . . .

Last week, on Wednesday, the Canadian Senate passed gay hate-crimes bill.

Concern about potential religious discrimination and persecution (here and here) has long accompanied the bill.

Early ramifications of the bill do not bode well for traditional Christians.

It seems to me too many of us U. S. Christians have been so concerned about what our fellow non-Christian citizens think of us, that we have failed to note the rising temperature of the water in our pot. And failed to stand strongly for our most basic and important beliefs.

I'm not normally an alarmist, apocalyptic-minded Christian. But I would wager that living the Christian life in its traditional fullness is going to become more and more difficult throughout the rest of my lifetime. I may, indeed, live long enough to see the sort of discrimination and persecution our brothers and sisters in once-Communist Russia saw.

But all things are in God's hands. He seats rulers and casts them from their thrones. The long-lived movement against the true Faith which has gone on in ever greater advances in my native country is subject to God's permissive will.

For my part, I will pray for a revival of the long-held Faith of the Church, and my part in it, and pray, too, to be ready for whatever may come.

You and me both, brother. I confess a slight tinge of excitement, only in a sense of light: this tunnle would be the darkest, but WE can always see the light. The light is much brighter this time (in my apocalyptic mode).

I think apocalyptic visions are all fine and dandy. I also think thhat the religious right is a more powerful lobby than you do apparently.

Fear not, brothers, Christianity ain't goin' nowhere for a while.
